Well miraculously we made it back from the lake again. Who would have believed we could have had it come back in one piece twice. O.K. well it was not really in one piece. The first outing we had a fuel and ignition problem so the engine did not want to run. Today we lost a cavitation plate pad on one of the turn buckles. But it at least ran. It ran 80.6 MPH with our little 330+ ci pump gas motor that we have in there. We tried two of the props we have and did not notice much of a difference in RPM or MPH. It will be interesting what will happen when we dial in the motor and get it to take a set. It just might be scary. Who knows, we might even post some pictures before too long. Maybe we will repost the whole building process of this boat just so you guys can see how stupid we are. LOL

Setting a date is a great Idea. As I stated before My buddy and I are going to be there for the entire third week of Sept. The Dates are the Sun 14-Mon 22. So those of you that want to come the weekend of the 13-14 we will be there on Sunday. For those of you that want to come during the week we will be there. For those of you that want to come the weekend of the 20-21 we will be getting ready to leave.
For those of you that attended the V-Drive September Social Prior to September 2003, you know what to expect. Let me just state that this is by no means an EVENT. This is a CAMPING TRIP for friends and fellow boaters to enjoy each others company. This is a if you want to tow whatever type of boat you own to the river and hang out with some friends then we will see you there.
There has been a suggestion of camping at Buckskin State Park which is directly across the river from ECHO LODGE which is on the California side of the river. There is camping, cabanas for day time use, a general store and a BAR on premises so NO ONE will have to drive. Of course all of this is open for discussion and subject to change.
Thanks Guys

Once again lets get this out. This is a bunch of people with the same interest going to the river on VACATION. It is not limited to anyone or any specific thing. If you decide to go to ECHO Lodge or Buckskin State Park or any other park within the 30 mile stretch of river in Parker AZ That is Located between Parker Dam and Blue Water Casino and you happen to run into some guys that are there vacationing with there boats and Families at the same time, then more power to you.
It would be great to meet people from the board so the more the merrier.

Yeah it's lathe work, I had to make one for that Hill prop I had, hub was too small. It was about an inch or so, just bored it to fit the shaft all but the last 1/8" or so just to fit the threads, made it out of stainless worked out good!..

You're right, it aint shit.
I didn't know if that was overly anal or not.:D
Nut bottoms out before prop is tight.
The measurements are from where the nut runs out of thread when I tighten the prop down with a shim. The shim that came with the prop and boat is a POS lock washer with an id of about 1-1/2".

If I use the "spacer" that came with the prop, fully tighten it down, remove the spacer, install the nut there is slightly less than .250 from the nut to the prop.

All right you guys here is the scoop on September Accommodations. My buddy and I went and checked out Buckskin and Echo Lodge. We decided to make reservations at Echo Lodge for the week of Sept 14-21 They have full hook up spaces and there is a lot of beach front for easier access to boats when anchored at the beach. Not to mention BradP has a permanent place there so it will be a lot easier to make his life miserable. There is also a store just incase you forgot some thing. They also have Cable TV hook up for an additional fee if you like.
Rates are as follows.
Nights..........River Front...........Off River
1................44.00..................39.00
2................88.00..................78.00
3................132.00................117.00
4................172.00................152.00
5................215.00................190.00
6................254.00................224.00
7................290.00................255.00
Extra Vehicle is $20.00 per night
There is a $20.00 reservation fee when you call. Reservations must be paid in full with Credit Card when you call. Any more information Please call.
ECHO LODGE (760) 663-4931
For those of you that may want to stay at Buckskin State Park the nightly rate there is $25.00. They are first come first serve, but they do have some spots that can be reserved. The only problem there is that if you want to use the cabanas during the day they said that would be a extra day use fee of $20.00 they are not included with your space rental. For more info call,
Buckskin State Park (928) 667-3231.
One last note my buddy and I reserved spot 130 and 131 they are on the far end closer to BradP. The spaces left in that row are 89-129 and the next row back are 137-161.If you wish to be in this area let them know.

Paul,
Iwould love to join all of you guys at the river but a 4,000 mile
round trip towing a boat isn't in the cards. Can't give up two weeks.
I am going to spend July 4th in Kauai with my daughter and her family.
My wife will be here til August 10th. I have to get my Midwest boating
done during this FREE time. Maybe I'll fly out but someone else will
have to provide the boatrides. Its not a moral issue, but I'll have to drink
Diet Coke cause i'm too darn old for beer etc.

If that is going to put a cramp in the deal let me know as I could probqbly move a space or so with a phone call. This is a v-drive expidition for us as 12-14th is Campbell's annual gathering at Havasu and then we get the opportunity to shift gears and join up with you folks for a couple of days. Is it not possible that one was attempting to create an temporary dock?
Which brings to mind that our old boat camping group would award the "GOLDEN PROP" the the participant with the most memorable transgression of the trip and that individual would be the proud possesser of the award until such time as the group voted to award it to someone else. It appears to me that antics of some could create a terrific opportunity to recognize extraordinary execution.

BUT I never get to go boating, just for fun. We have been out on the 'toon twice this year and we live a few miles away. We went boating on this river more when we lived in Northridge Calif. than we do living here in town. It's funny how "things work out". Way back in the 70's, I said that "I would like to live here (in the keys) someday". All my friends said "yeh" and let it go. I'm glad I didn't purchase a lot in the "keys" it's too close/tight for me. We finally got things together and moved to Havasu. Really happy to be in a small town. "Boating every day"? HOW?

Do you guys want to be in the Keys or on the river? I like the idea of a "river front house" . The streets in the Keys are so tight, it's just too much/little for a full time house. (for me) I don't need to hear my neighbor "beating on his wife" , I could have that back in the valley. HA HA! I ask because I've talked to some realtors on the Az side. Lots of people loosing their houses in this state. If the Chevy dealer in Parker were reasonable, your dad could run the parts dept. (make them money) without a problem. He's an "old school parts pro", a guy who "knows what it is and how it works", instead of the "let me look on the computer' type of parts guy. I still want to know how Louis can boat most every day !

Naaaaa It wouldn't have to be in the Key's, I would prefer it not to be. I like being further up river, you know, more of the area that I have grown up with! We looked at some of the "double wide's" in Echo last year, it was amazing what they wanted for them compared to a house in the valley! or even a new truck! Those weren't riverfront though. Pops don't wanna run anything, just wants to show up, work, and go home. I tell him he should try to "step up" all the time lol

Look, your dad is now the "go to guy", he has built and run enough "toys" along with his "work ethic", he has credibility to be a parts resource. Back in "the day' we had guys like Rodney Monk, built cars, motors, in the magazines (street races?) , and did stuff with stock GM part numbers. Your dad is just carrying on that tradition. I know what he is talking about! I don't really mind "working for someone", after being my own boss for so long. It just makes the "home workshop time" more special. No "management worries!", no "Friday paydays/payroll" problems. I just know how the parts departments are here, and I know they could be operated much better. Hey! Why would he move to the river and then want MORE WORK? He's correct, fly low, under the radar!!! PLAY MORE!

The E85 is 85% Gasoline and 15% from corn fuel... My car can run on E85 but you can't find it anywhere in So. Cal.. It is better for the air.... I'm not sure on the octane though.

That is what I understand to. We already run 10% ethanol in our fuel anyway so another five percent would not be a big deal. Also the E85 is 103 or 104 octane (and most say that is conservative). I have seen some engine builders making 1000 HP engines that run on E85. How would you like a 1000 HP naturally aspirated pump gas motor?:D

Oh, sorry we were talking about September. Has anybody heard from Major Justin?

Coming back from Burley I stopped at a station that sold E85 and it said 103 on the pump!.. Too bad it's not readily available!..
I've got more of that s##t around here than I can shake a stick at and what we have found is for the few cents you save at the pump you lose more in mileage. Craps not worth the effort or expense. Alcohol seamed to improve all around performance in my Duramax but not my gas engines.
