sorrry bud catchin up boat looks great,Art has a very good initial cav plate setup for the early flats if youre driven off the flywheel, makes a good starting point then fine tune from there

Well, I don't remember that but here goes, if the bottom is flat fore and aft set the plates flat with the bottom in the center, left corner 1/16" up right corner 1/16" down and a 1/16"-1/8" gull in each plate!.. BUT, unless the bottom is free of discrepencies and the power, prop and gear combo is right so it can take a set, plate settings are pretty much worthless!...

What gears you got?, I'd be trying a different prop, take the nickels out and borrow some props, if you got the gears a 10 3/4x16 would be a good start, but even an 11x15 would be better!.. How much travel you got in the plates and how long are they??..

kostelacd69
04-01-2008, 05:55 PM
ive got 28 in it right now but i ahd 15 in it too and did the same i put bills prop on it that was like 11 x 16 seem alittle better but still did it

RiverRacer

Looks like you have issues alright, how long of plates you have and how much travel?, what's you're shaft angle, also how much power you got??...

kostelacd69
04-02-2008, 04:15 AM
i had 5.5 inch and know ive got 10.5 inch plates 550hp angle is 8 degres

kostelacd69
04-02-2008, 04:15 AM
one inch of travel

kostelacd69
04-02-2008, 04:19 AM
im going to cut the strut and the shaft an inch and see what that does

RiverRacer
04-02-2008, 04:26 AM
i had 5.5 inch and know ive got 10.5 inch plates 550hp angle is 8 degres

Ok you just made it worse, what you did by extending the plates is move the prop 5" forward, and that's a huge amount and that lifts the nose big time!.. Eight degree angle is good!..

RiverRacer
04-02-2008, 04:27 AM
one inch of travel

That's good!

RiverRacer
04-02-2008, 04:29 AM
im going to cut the strut and the shaft an inch and see what that does

Now you're really going to screw it up, that will move the prop even further forward and make it even worse!..

kostelacd69
04-02-2008, 04:31 AM
yeah i exstended the boat 5 inches and that makes it think that its 5 inches longer but how is that bad if im cutting the shaft another inch moving it forward another inch

kostelacd69
04-02-2008, 04:32 AM
but if i push the prop back it gets horrible

RiverRacer
04-02-2008, 04:45 AM
yeah i exstended the boat 5 inches and that makes it think that its 5 inches longer but how is that bad if im cutting the shaft another inch moving it forward another inch

Because you're moving the prop forward and that lifts the nose!.. How far is the motor from the transom?????..

RiverRacer
04-02-2008, 04:47 AM
but if i push the prop back it gets horrible

Moving it back lifts the tail and drops the nose, you have other issues!. I think it's time to start from scratch, too many changes and nothing works, you have to one change at a time!..

kostelacd69
04-02-2008, 05:00 AM
29 inches all the changes that ive made were one at a time going to the lake and playing with it and the plates all day this was all last year bill and rbr are saying that the problem is is that the nose isnt getting lifted the back is theres not enought lift on the front of the boat thats why when i add weight to the front it doesnt help and when i move the prop back it gets worse its lifting the back to much

RiverRacer
04-02-2008, 05:11 AM
Should be more like 34", if it lifts the tail too much then it will nose dive not hop. Have you checked the bottom at all for hooks or rockers???..

kostelacd69
04-02-2008, 06:13 AM
well the hull it self has a rocker in it about 1.5 to 2 feet from the transome the bottom isnt perfect but no hooks

RiverRacer
04-02-2008, 04:17 PM
Yeah that's tipical when a motor sits in it all it's life, it develops a sag over time!.. Bottom should be fixed!..
