I have stripped most of the paint off of my floors, only to find what the previous owner was trying to hide. It looks to me like a lot of delamination:(. I see quite a lot of white discoloration. This is my first boat so I am not quite sure if this is a case of needing new floors. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Take a screw driver & tap on the floor every couple of inches & around the discolored spots..If it sounds solid the wood is OK...Any cracks are going to need to be ground out & repaired as they will come right back...What are your plans for the floor, stringers & bulkheads..

Right now I am not sure what my plans are. I bought this boat with little knowledge, but am set on doing things right the first time. The floors seem to be solid, although there are about a dozen 1/8" holes where I pulled out self tapping screws. I was on the brink of making up motor plates, rail kit, etc. for the boat - but am now putting that stuff on hold until I figure out what needs to be done with the floors and stringers. The bulkhead at the dash seems to be OK, although the spot where the stringer is glassed to the bulkhead has delaminated completely.
I am in this project with my brother, and while he has experience laying up carbon fiber for mock airplane wings (aerospace engineer), we have no experinece laying up and correcting fiberglass. Thanks for all the advice!

The boat can be repaired..basic stuff....By asking what your plans are for the floor & stuff, Are you going to patch & gel/color coat everything..This would be the easiest/cheapest.. although there are other options.. We do custom floors, carbon composite stuff as well as the run of the mill repairs.... Anything I can help with, just ask...:)

Given the looks of things, if the wood is OK in the floors, we would probably go ahead and patch the trouble spots.
Would it be just as easy to grind out the bad spots, sand the entire floor, and lay new glass down from the transom forward? Is this something that is done?
I'll talk to my brother tonight after work and see how deep he wants to get into this sanger.
I really appreciate the offer for advice, guys like you keep us newbies motivated!

Yes this would be one way to go...Do you plan on gelcoating over the floor or patch, reglass & flowcoat..

I am starting to feel I need to talk to somebody about this fiberglass work before I do something I can't fix. There is a local guy who does fiberglass work - if that does not work out I may make a run up to Fairfield sometime next week and see if you can point me in a good direction. :)
