Back from the prop shop to see about a new shaft, and have the stainless one i bought tuned...The shop said they need the flange coupler from the v-drive to fit the shaft to it? Have not heard of this. If the 1" shaft i now use fits the drive flange on the casale, a new good quality shaft would fit also?

This post kinda lost me. Is this the prop shaft, or the shaft from engine to v drive?...I've never seen a 1" shaft from the engine. They are usually a drive line with u joints, or a splined, about 1 1/4", solid shaft with flanges on both ends.....Maybe I'm coming into this boat a little late, excuse me........MP

It is the prop shaft, not the drive shaft. Shop told me they needed the flange on the v-drive (that the shaft goes into) to fit the prop shaft to it? stated just because its a 1" shaft and 1" coupler flange does not mean it will fit.

Sounds odd to me. Selling added work??? like the $99 brake job?

Sounds to me like what they are really asking you for, is the SPLIT COUPLER that joins the propshaft to the v-drive output shaft. Here is a "link" to the one that Rex Marine sells:

His old cruiser does have a 'flange coupler'. Do they want to see if it's loose? Fit the key/way? Is this shop known for V-drive propshafts or just general repairs??? Casale, Glenwood, Rex, Eddie are known for quality shaft material, don't cut corners here.

My C500 has a flange coupler, Keyed to the shaft, my current shaft, 30 years old fit perfect. Not a split coupler type. The shop I was going to order a new shaft from said "the new shaft might not fit your flange unless we send it to them and have it fitted". Ordered a shaft from Glenwood Marine, Bob said "my shaft will fit the way it's supposed to" I trust him, always fair and honest. should be here on friday:D... then cav plate measurements and prop testing...try out the new gps:D

It could be that the guy just wanted to make sure that the flange coupler wasn't FKD up!..

True enough, I pulled it off to inspect it, and will measure both pieces before installing
