ford 460 with a tunnel ram intake with flat plate that 6-71 blower mounts on top. the the long block is already built. the intake port size is that like the cobra jet bigger than the dove c heads intake ports. do you guys think i can port match the heads if the engine is already built with head on. is it worth port matching. the exhaust has been ground a little and the top of the tunnel ram is but it is not port matched on the intake to heads. what will i loose if i don't port match. what do you think about engine combo. thanks

I would say deffinatly NOT on porting with the heads on the motor. All the shaving and crap will get in the motor and you will ruin it the minute you start it up. if you want to port the heads to match remove them from the motor and do it right.

do you think it would be worth it to take it apart and port match it.

How about getting some "devcon"? Use a 460 (small port) intake gasket, and BLEND the intake to the smaller head port size. This will reduce the "puddling and untuneable problems" you may/will run into. A blunt wall within the intake port channel will really do some major BAD THINGS to the air/fuel mixtures under boost. The smaller 'devcon tuned' ports will make the boost needle go higher, and impress your buddies. AND! When you go to freshen it up (on down the road), you can then remove the 'devcon' and port match everything correctly, as needed.

Do it right ! Pull the heads off and radious port match the heads. I have run with and without port matching. The biggest thing I have found is tunability, or eass of tuning. It is just a few gaskets, do it now !

If he was "doing it right" we all wouldn't be here! Anyone who asks the original question, either does not have the money for new head gaskets, or does not know how to put the valvetrain back together after removal. Why else would anyone try to "call a do over" on an intake to head port problem?

If he can't afford the gaskets I will send him a set. If he needs help with the valve train I am sure his local head machine shop would be willing to help him as well. If he has any questions I am alway avalible by phone 24hrs a day !! I can also send him some pictures of what I have done in the past to help him out as well.

Well Art, I got pissed and got myself suspended from the APBA last weekend, for unsportsman like conduct.
Now next season will be very interesting as the jets will be a real APBA class. I hope all the rule are in place soon.
