small block chevy no 2 cylinder ,boat sat for 20 years pulled plugs 1 rusty started mtor pulled plug water runs out plus oil in pan.any comments or advise ?

Did it sit outside all this time???, are you in cold climate and it froze up in the winter?????. Regardless it needs to come apart and the problem found!..

"20 years"? Go to your local animal shelter and rescue a "friend for life', 'cause you need one.

The motor ran?..........What does "plus oil in pan" mean?........Did you have water going to the motor when it ran?.........What type exhaust?........MP

yeah started motor that was water in pan.this boat was put away wet in a garage in vannuys in 89, wooden flat bottom,plack,on dash says Nescher I was told 1961 paper work says 1963 .Ill start by pulling heads.and post some pictures.I came by this site when a guy named spike left his number regarding this boat.I did have water running but patially to fully clogged with white chalky stuff.it has edlebrock exhaust thru transom I havnt looked at the v case yet.

blown head gasket .Any advise on cooling system?This boat has AN fittings and braided stainless.routed from prop to cam pump to vdrive case split to logs down to block out manifold to logs.does this sound adequate?

NO. Show a few photos so we can guide you to what will work correctly. Photos will show us what kind of hardware you have and where the water fittings are located.

I stink at this .this is the blown gasket and side block water fitting.sorry if I m doing this wrong.The intake is tapped with two hoses one to each log thermostat hole has a plate with temp sender.

sure does look like a blown head gasket to me. Also one neat looking old school ride.

Looks as though the engine has an extra dump, (blue AN fitting). Could be why it had a head gasket problem........GM engineers worked long and hard to design a cooling system that circulated for proper cooling. Most attempts to improve it are dismal failures..............MP

Looking at your larger photo, I see a motor that got hot and then cold very quickly. Just above the "AN" fitting I see where the 'head gasket seal' failed (rust) and other areas toward the right of photo that were going to fail soon. I call this "unseating" the head gaskets. Ray's comments seem to ring true right here! This "overheat/ hot cold" problem was amplified by inserting cold water (AN fitting) in the center of the block. I try to control water temps to a less than 50 degree difference, when running. Yes, it is ambient temp when 'cold start', and yes the block 'boils' durring run hot shut downs, but free running, uncontroled cooling water can cause "unseated" head gaskets. Expansion and Contraction of the block and heads. Then of course 'worn out' and/or 'aftermarket' head bolts will contribute to this problem.

After sitting for 20 years and you find water in the engine the best thing is to tear it down and freshen up the motor.

OK,so what would be the proper way to cool my new or rebuilt small block?A diagram would be real cool.Should I keep those logs?

IN where the 'car waterpump' mounts to the block and out the thermostat hole. Then maybe a cross over on the intake at the distributor end. Cap off those 'AN' fittings and use them at seasons end to wash sand out of the block. As Art and evryone else has said, rebuild it! The rust on those cylinder walls is to heavy to ignore. Pressure test that block and heads BEFORE REBUILD!!!!

No special kind, just seal the threads in a Chevy just like you would in a car!..
