I've been reading some articles that bluntly state that 25-35% increase in fuel mileage is available by simply adding 3oz acetone, 3oz xzylene, and 3oz diesel to 10 gallons of gasoline. At those amounts per 10 gallons, those increases would certainly pay for the products (and then some!) and stand little chance (I think) of damaging anything.
Read the articles.... smartgas.net.....
Has anybody here ever tried any of this?

We used to use Acetone in the fuel for our drag bike. It was turbo'd and we launched it on the bottle. What I remember was that we added an ounce per gallon. It helped with detonation.

Don, this came up about two years ago and I tried it in my dually, the wife's Toyota pickup and my old Chevy beater, and all had the same results!. No gain in mpg in either one, but what it does is really clean up the system and sure makes an engine idle smooth, I've never seen a big block yet after running a 100+ miles in 110 degree weather and go directly to an idle and run smooth and same with the other vehicles, so now every once in a while I put some in just to clean the fuel system!. BTW, I even tried different timing settings and still no difference in mileage!...

How did you control the 'vapor releases'? On hot days my 95 Sub/350 has vapors around the cannister, running just gas.

Well, my stuff is old and don't have canisters except for the Toy, but no vapor problems but it is an 86 don't know if it makes a difference??. Oh and I put some in to get it smogged and talk about clean....

Don't tell me old! I still have a 1976 C25/461. Along with the 1972/350 Vette, and the 1979 461/turbo crewcab dually. Only the vette has no cannister. Pure Acetone will vaporize just like the "wash stuff" does, so how is that controled? 8 hours of sitting in the sun durring work, makes my little Suburban into a "terrorist bomb" ! I am using Herbst gas, not junk. I have looked at the 'hydrogen cooker' sites on the web, but don't want to 'sacrifice' my car to science. Alcohol is OK for TOYS, but what about the daily driver? PS, at my age I am NOT going to mix up special fuel stuff, like I'm at a bar!

Well, the dually is a 73 and at that time all 1 ton and over were exempt from any smog equipment and checks so there is nothing there, it's just like a 60's vehicle, now the beater is a 73 1/2 ton but it don't have anything either, but I don't know where it originally came from, could have been back east because it's not an A/C truck!.. But I've never smelled anything even after sitting in 110 degree temps, and don't even smell anything in the exhaust when it's running!..

Yes, acetone evaporates quite readily and that is probably why it would not be a good idea for the oil companies to add it for us... evaporation would probably screw up the mix. It is very small amounts per 10 gallons of gas and the author insists that more IS NOT better. If you mix the stuff yourself and put it in with ten gallons, it's said to mix very well and I'll bet it would remain fairly stable in a closed system gas tank as long as the vehicle is in actual use.
The guy at the paint store said he uses tolulene in his old beater pickup and, at first, it dissolved the varnishes and clogged his system ( maybe he used too much?)
So far, I have a $4qt of acetone, A $13 qt of zylene, and a $1.25 gal of diesel.
This should treat 100 gallons of gas. If I can go 130% as far, it will be the same as getting 30 gallons of free gas (30 times 3.90 equals $117) Not a bad return on an $18.25 investment IF IT WORKS!!

I got to tell you a funny story about Acetone and my dad. I was about 12 years old when this happened. We had a brick BBQ my dad built and he would always lite the wood with gas. Well, this time he didn't have any gas so he used acetone to light the fire, we always had acetone around even at home!!! Well, he threw a match in to light it and it blew the whole damn BBQ into pieces, bricks flying everywhere!!! Luckily no one got hurt, however one brick flew through a window and landed inside the house.
I don't think anything is more flamable than acetone.

That is funny as hell, glad nobody got hurt though could have been disastrous!..

Learned my lesson with this stuff not me but someone else but i learned to never let the vapors build at all very dangerous

Just like any flammable liquid, it's the vapors that ignite and is dangerous!..
