I have a Neovane water pump but not sure what number it is. Do i have to take it off to see the number on the back, or am i just blind?. Was also told they are'nt very good pump's, carry an extra with me to the lake, how true is this?

Neovane pumps are good pumps, just not made anymore. You can still get impellor's for them. I always have and extra impellor with me whether it's a neovane or magnaflow pump. You just never know when it is going to let go

Yes, Neovane pumps are good pumps, thet were darn near the standard for the industry at one time.
They came in as cast brass, or chrome plated. There was a model V-505, which was a 1/2" hose thread, and a V-755 which was a 3/4" hose thread.
A few companies, like Stellings and Nicson, made polished aluminum water "T's" that attached directly to the top of the pumps, that cleaned up the hose routing, and were fairly attractive.
Some engines have too big of a harmonic balancer, (like the FE Fords), and would use a Jabsco style pump,( which were popular too), had a longer neck, instead of a Neovane.
I believe there's a website called "Drag Boat City", that has Neovane rebuild kits, complete with bearings, seals, and instructions, as well as the impeller, in case you want to completely disassemble yours, or re-chrome it, or if you bought a swap meet pump that you want to fix up.
I think Glenwood has the impellers too. Give them a call.

P.S.,
Sorry, I almost forgot. The number(if there is one, not all had the number stamped), is on the stamped "bell" flange ,that surrounds the impeller. However, the impeller and "bell" are the same part, regardless of model, so always check the pipe thread size to determine for sure, what model you have .

They are an excellent pump, just like anything else you need to maintain it, take care of the impeller and it will last a long time, I still have the one that came on my first boat in 73, only put two impellers in since I've had it!..

The 1/2" and 3/4" pumps have "cover screws" all the way around the cover. (same impeller) The "V-105" has only 2 "stand off screws" to hold the cover on. (larger impeller)

Thank's RR , i'll take a look after work to see if i'm able to get a number off it. I do know the fitting's are vertical at/above the bell.
