View Full Version : Its Wet! and What a Rush! It Felt Great!!!!
It got WET and Loved every minute of it.....Thanks to "retired flat bottom racer" he spent the afternoon with me and we had a blast or at least i did! This was the most fun i have had with or without my clothes on in awhile, wait that didn't sound right! who cares it was a BLAST. I am ready to get this thing on the ragged edge and then move to the next level, i know, i know a step at a time it was a freakin blast.........The only problem was the boat started steering funny towards the end of the day and when i got home i found the key to the quadrant laying in the floor and the rudder was opposite of the the quadrant, i guess you could say we got off the water in the nick of time!!! All i can say is much THANKS goes out to retired (flat bottom racer) He is a gentleman and a scholar.....super guy to have for a neighbor, with lots of knowledge..........Thanks again Bill I am hooked and love it!!!!!!!:D

You were very fortunate...I would put hose clamps around the rudder shaft to keep the key from coming out (top & bottom of keyway) as this can really ruin alot of peoples day...

Or make sure the quadrant has a set screw in it to hold the key in place
Already Done! I reset up the steering cables tension and hose clamps top and bottom of the quadrant!!
Set screw in the face of quadrant just to hold the key, Did i understand you right?

That's how Ralph left the boat biz (not his fault either) DRY! you will now need to change your name to WET! or gonna' get WET! HA HA! Please go over EVERY NUT AND BOLT after this first lap. You will then get a "better feel" for how hard everything is working at top speeds. This way you will learn how to improve your boat while improving your driving. Good job!

I don't know, but it sounds a little like you enjoyed yourself. Wonder if the Oklahoma lakes are aware that a freshly minted speed freak has been turned loose?:D
You Know these v-drives are like a GIANT VIAGRA on a tandem trailer,They are sure to get a rise out of ya and put a smile on your face at the same time, Yee Haw!!! Now all i need is to get my interior swapped out and i will be set to style in high performance fashion............

Lucky boy! In all seriousness when my mate and I were setting his boat up (only as a river racer) we got hold of a scruitineering sheet from a local boat racer and went over his boat to see if it would pass. Things like locking collars, lock nuts/nylocks being used, steering stops etc, etc. We were surprised at the number of things that had been overlooked:o.
If you are going to run 'on the ragged edge' racing or not, do not overlook the little things or take short cuts... you want to be able to enjoy this experience time and time again.
On a brighter note glad you had a great day!:D
Cheers
I have rechecked anything that bolts or has nuts and think i have everything covered now for the next outing. Thanks for your input............

This always reminds me of the time a guy walked up & ask if i ever get tired of cleaning on our boat while at the lake...I relized he had no idea that I was not just cleaning ,But checking stuff..We used to run Dirt Track sprintcars back in the 70's...You would inspect everything with a rag first...Then with your hand...:D
Yep, Been there done that routine back in the earler days. But then that is when safety wires used to come in handy in certain areas................

Great you had fun... I can relate..!
The first day out after 2-1/2 years of building... WOW...LOL..!
Funny thing... Forgot to make sure the baffle mounting bolts in the headers were verified... tight...
As we were leaving the marina... I was clearing the throttle several times (showing off..:) My buddy asked me as we were just getting to the open lake...
"Sounds like it just got louder"... I said NAW... Off we went...
When we put it back on the trailer... BOTH the baffles were gone... ????
I check... check... and re-check now....AND STILL HAVE FUN...!!!
There is NO subsitute for a blown BBC... :)
CONGRATS..!

Safety wire is still being used can't replace it, it's also great instead of bulky hose clamps!..:D
