Just discovered the site thanks to a referral from Novass on the Glen-L site. I had been following threads over on the Hot Boat and then the Performance Boat websites but frankly I had darn near lost interest. It seems like those sites have just digressed into a handful of people with nothing better to do than question each others sexual orientation. Anyway it looks like this site actually contains nut and bolt v-drive information. I grew up in a homemade 16' flatbottom v-drive and have just never really been happy in newer boats (ski boat, fiberglass flat, whatever). My father built boats in the 50's and we got talking about building another one. We've started laying out a 19-20' family flatbottom (yeah I know that's an oxymoron). I can't afford two boats so this is the compromise. It took a bath and kitchen remodel to earn enough chips to pull this one boat off. The new boat will seat 7 and we're looking for speed in the 65-70mph range and the bottom design (or at least the rear two-thirds of it) is based on the Glen-L dragster. Beam is identical to that design and freeboard is pretty close in most areas. Nothing too crazy. I hope to be using this site for updating our 1950's knowledge base to current thinking. I'm located in the Fresno, CA area.

Yes! John is a great/friendly source, but don't forget Harlan. I remember back to the first "Boat Racer Reunion" in Pomona. Guys were "on their knees" in Harlan's presents, OK they were looking under his boat at the bottom. But he did have a big crowd around him.
