Just thinking...
I have seen lot's of setups that use V-8's for the power source...and seen one really clean setup that used a straight six...! I was actually considering doing this on a extra hull I had, but when I saw that one.... just never followed through.
Why has not with so many of them around us now... Not build one using a V6 arrangement or did I miss one..?
Over in Japan, they hang the whole four-cylinder over the back with a unsupported prop shaft about ten feet... works..! These things really move..!
Please don't tell me it is because the V6 does not develope the torque... Talk to any drag racer and they will tell you otherwise.
Don't get me wrong, " there is no subsitute for cubic inches" anywhere..!
Another thought..?
With gas prices only getting worse...?
Just a thought,
Geo

Would love to have that little 2300 to run in our mini modified stock car.

Now Jon, that "Furd" wasn't expensive. The 4 cylinder block came out of an old 1987 out drive boat. The rest of the stuff, with the exception of the two injector systems, I got at Home Dump. The IR injectors were half price (only 4 holes) and the throttle body injection I made from some old well pump pieces.
Now that little 327 chevy, that was expensive. I bet I spent 100 dollars running around to wrecking yards finding the block and heads. (found em in a 65 Chevelle) That wasn't too costly but I lost my head and had to have two Quadrajets on the thing, man that extra carb cost me dearly. So either one of these would make inexpensive alternate boat motors. Apologies accepted Jon.:D

Back in 1984/85 we were working on projects for B&M blowers. I had designed and built a few of our "17' Lite Cruisers", with V6 I/O, and jets. B&M had a blower for the 2.8 Chevy V6, and we built three V-drives with our own custom built motors. They were very light, but only ran around 65/70MPH, because 5lbs of boost on a 189" motor will only make so much power on pump gas. After "jumping thru flaming hoops" while building these V6 boats, we could have built the same boats FOR LESS MONEY AND TROUBLE with 350 motors and blowers. Also did a Mazda rotor in a 12' boat with a jet. I'm done re-inventing the wheel!

Please don't tell me it is because the V6 does not develope the torque..
BUT, how much does it "COSTS" to get all that torque that still don't amount to a big block!..:D

Bill, you never responded to my more than generous... offer for the little Furd motor... seeing as how it was so cheap to build I was willing to give you a profit...:D

OK....
So where are all these "Wiz-Bang" boats now...?
As I mentioned... I am a firm believer of Cubic Inch Rules..!
I built my first 331 creation in my upstairs apartment years ago... Once it was all put together was when I realized... Darn... How to get it down the front stairs..?
After thinking this one through... We took my engine hoist apart. Took the parts upstairs and reassembled on the back balcony... Drilled holes into the floor joists to mount angle iron mounts to bolt the hoist to. We used a electric whench off my truck and battery.
Lowered it down to my neighbors back yard. Put it on a shopping cart base, and rolled it through their back fence... : )
I kinda miss those days, but my wife would shoot me if I dragged a motor through the house...!

That's funny, I can remember building a BSA twin on the dining room table, and I can tell ya that didn't go over too well at the time!..:D

I think most of those "whiz-bang" boats are out on the lakes or in backyards. One of my 17' Lite's with a 229" V-6 was on here for sale (in a backyard/broken outdrive) last year. (built 1984) I'm always ready to "think outside the box", just bring your ideas and your CHECKBOOK on over to my house and let's get to work! Please don't ask me to put my money into your "project", I've done enough of my own.

I'll bet 99% of them "whiz-bang" boats are in back yards rotting away!..

No, I don't think so. If they were built with WOOD SCREWS, sure, but if the little 4's and 6's had motor rails and were thru bolted, into solid hulls why wouldn't they last this long? Remember they were REAL MOTORS and not "jet ski motors" in boats.

Their is a boat shop in Leesburg Florida (central Florida) that has three old flatty's sitting out back in his boat yard they have been their for at least 10 years. I have been in their a couple of times and asked about purchase and he always wanted some way out price. Now here in the south rot happens quite quickly, and it is a shame because these guy's that sit on this stuff and wont sell or give it away are just wasting history and in the end these boats wind up in the dumpster. It is Sad!

That sucks, hate that $hit, but people do the same with classic cars too, a shame indeed!..:(
