Nice to have you here along with a beautiful Stevens. That boat is real easy to look at, great detail and very clean.:)

Very, very cool Nailhead and Stevens...awesome!

Thanks for sharing the pics and welcome to the forum.

I am an avid Nailhead guy, running them in the last 3 hot rod cars I've built. I swapped out the 354 emi that was in my Stevens for a Nailhead this past winter.:D

63Stevens, would you tell us about that reverse flow Nailhead you have there. The idea always intrigued me when I saw them in dragsters (cars), but your's is the first boat.

Inquiring minds need to know!

The main idea was to try and increase flow. The nailheads have a 1.5 exhaust and a 1.9 intake. Stuff the fuel in with the blower on the small valve and get it out on the big valve. We did gain some overall performance but just seeing if we could do it was alot of fun. My brother and I did all the work except grinding the cam. Howard cams built the cam for us. Would be fun to see if we could do it in a car.

63!
Your boat is just, plain bitchin', and even more so because you and your brother did it. Kudos, great boat. Spike

(Is it just me, or does anyone use "bitchin" anymore.........)

Glad to hear it Rick, we just bought a lot at Del Rey and Hopi almost on the water, if everything goes right we should be there by the end of the year or first of next, can't wait!.... BTW, Sandy says hi to you guys!...

I had saved a bunch of pics of these over the years, but damn if this is the only one I could find in my computer.

Yea, they were (are) pretty cool. The pictures I was looking for were all of "blown" reverse flow Nailheads. Everyone that ever explained them to me said exactly the same thing as 63Stevens, cram the air down it and take advantage of the larger exhaust valves.

63Stevens,
Do you have any HP or torque numbers that you're getting with your setup?

We were at one time going to put it on a dyno and fine tune but found out that we would have to make a bunch of different things just to hook it up to the dyno. Not your normal hook up. Would be interesting to see the numbers. This engine is getting rather tired. Looking for a 425 long block. Have any connections. Was also thinking of making this one a stroker. can make them about 460

That fence in the backround looks like Lyons in long Beach Calif. I was thinking of a front mounted 6-71 for my 55 Poncho. 3" 8MM drive. The motor, 6-71, 3 throttle bodies and air filters won't fit under the hood, and I'm not cuttin' no holes. Love the "Nail head" deal! Last Nail head, 65 or 66 Riviera?
