Is that going on this weekend? I have never been to anything like this because of location...live in Mi. But I plan on heading towards Portland Or this weekend to deliver a truck. I would love to make a pit stop and see what it is all about. Any more info would be great.

I forgot to tell every one that I posted around 1000 images of the Irvine Regatta on my Photobucket Link. Click on the link and look for the Irvine regatta title on the left in the My Albums.

Hey Louis, are you taking your boat with ya??..
Flatmvn
06-25-2008, 05:00 AM
No that won't be happening. Two reasons first is Gas prices. The other is I went to Big River this past weekend and was floating with some friend and there was a Boulder Bar under the water and I couldn't get the boat Fired in time to get out of the way.
Needless to say I damaged some parts. Hit the skegg and shoved it up out of the bottom of the boat on the first hit. On the second hit it bent the prop shaft. No damage to the prop or the strut or the rudder. I haven't taken it apart yet but when I do I will start another thread and post up some pics.
Made it back to the rampand didn't sink it from the skegg being knocked loos so I guess it was a less expensive weekend. Good thing the bilge pump worked.

Yes the ditch pump is still running strong. I will have the Rush back in no time though was busy getting ready to go to Burley so no time to mess with it. When I get back I will jump right in the middle of it though.

Howdyy..............your happy camper jerk here with so many to thank. Here are a few: Jon Breeze, Tom Lura, Steve whitney, Eric Oleson who donated to the Nostalgia bunch gas bill. Thank you all and to those of you like Larry Drury SS396 for the huge loan of his pickup to haul myself and Only One, Rick, the huge distance with NO problems.
We tested second yesterday after being the tow boat and rescue squad for the little boat that could, E39 E-Motions of Mr Weber. He and his son ran some huge test runs hitting 83mph in 1 foot chop! I only managed 78 but that was huge for me with my tune up ability! Jetted four sizes down and plugs looked good, too good, I always run rich so I can burn more smelly fuel.
Art and Sandy are welcome on my crew along with Marc (Boat Guy) and Rick doing the dirty hard work! Thanks Linda for sharing such a willing learner even though he had his difficult sunning moments. Yup, forgot the sunblock!
No one else really tested except a few crackers (Gramps Toy) ran at least 10 gallons through the mouse motor. A few jet boats ran but for the most part everyone sunned themselves and Tony, my new friend, insulted me at every opportunity. Jullian was very informative and amusing, slamming Mr. Wilton often. He mentioned the use of NItro at a few races.......perfectly legal in K class.
Parade is this morning and we have 4 bags of candy to throw at those silly enough to watch 40 boats slowly go by full of stupid grinning boataholics! I guess that describes at least one, Jerkizoid. Hope you all could have come down!
Slow but sure and mostly safe, Nostalgia Circle Boats: Formerly 'Outlaws' now a part of Burley and APBA! Hurrah

?well not exactly, but the K-50 boat has a new fuel additive, yup, jerkizoid juice (Methanol fuel drum with my signature). When you mix it with oil it turns a yellow brown..... Waynes K50 won the popular show and shine last night only to fall victim to a way rich condition reducing the racing oil to a milky substance and that's not good. So 12-14 quarts of expensive special lubricity is poured in the trash, very messy. The boat, as usual roared unmercifully down the Burley chutes and was unaffected by the Burley Bump (rollers bouncing off the cement wall about 3/4 track). However, Wayne and 'Ghost of K-5O' Looked and sounded B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L-L. Bubba and King will get it leaned out for first round eliminations Saturday. Tony looked very strong and smooth in K-5 and won 2nd in the SS Shootout.
Winner and still Champion: Gordon Jennings Junior is B-A-C-K! Fast time of 46 something in the Rankin SS80 placed him #1 in the Bud Shootout! I will be bowing in front of the 'King' sometime tomarrow in recognition and homage of his often vocally professed abilities as a 'Flat Shoe'! However, First, I'll wait till he stands on the trailer fender. I dont think my back will bend that low....
Sorry, I didnt see all the racing but if Amy Ross ever decides to race a boat with 2 pedals, all the boys are in real embarassment trouble!!! She won the Cracker Shootout going away!
Oh, my boat sucks but ran a safe 78mph so I got a chance ,not much, but could redeem myself a worthy competitor in Nostalgia Endurance in my Vintage K boat Wannabe. Oh, those guys are here also with the biggest grins and lenses this jerk has ever seen.
PS: Where is Jim Rich (Squirtin Blunder) and his case of beer I would handily win???? Yup, A NO SHOW!!! Go figure;) Comp jets rocked without him...Opps, did I say that?
Take it away Louis, Paul, Buzzz.....................

Thanks for the memories? Bad day for the Shark, just would not turn but I braved it out. We were just right on tun Friday 4180 elevation by dropping four jet sizes. Then, Saturday our first heat only ran 75 for a third place then 77 after dropping 2 more. Still too rich, I'm now at 84 no power valves in a 950 and 468 cubes. What's worse, the boat doesnt like the River! I can only turn well the first 180 degrees and then poof, I blast off to lane 8 from 2! As lluck would have it, no one was beside me and that beautiful Shockwave or Shocker Patterson # SS88 caught and passed my for third. Three leaders, the PS12, SS76 and E39 all ran too fast giving the win to Randy S. in P29 Cracker Box! Way to go Randy, from the Northwest! We had 9 boats the first two heats with 8 remaining for the final! Wow what a thrill to dice and squeeze down the front shoot 8 wide anticipating the flag drop! Twice, we had to go around again for not lining up correctly,,,,,go figure. Bunch of rookies?? No the crazy Burley course requires you to circle another island 1/2 mile away so all boats have a straight shot at the chute. Boats key up on the outside boat and there sat a rookie driving a PS who did an admirable job considering it was his first time ever....Wow Burley, almost over!
Tony won K when Duff slowed and Tye driving K66 just stopped in turn 2. I heard was there was some squeezing also involved, but dont quote me, it was one wild Sat final with 7 boats flying. I cant imagine what that turn must have been like and only the drivers know actually what happened but K66 and K 50 were dead at the exit pin.
I am beat up and must make a decision soon on the 57 boat, I suspect it will become a ski boat once again due to its inability to turn and its weight,,,,,jjust one jerks opinion and amatuer reporting.
Great crowd, great weather, great racing, the best time I have ever had period!
Super Stock was so wild, I cant accurately report. Tony won the last one in SS68 going away with SS80 in runner up spot. Pro stock was Tye in PS 70 going away. Crackers saw P9 lead em the distance, Amy close behind.
Thanks again Larry for the tow rig! And there were 4 Calif Nosties and 5 NW Outlaws. I will post results when possible.

Ron Minegar owns the Sharp white boat. I think, at least its one of them and it sure isnt LouLou Santa curls! He was MIA today, someone said he hooked a golf ball badly, he had to take a nap from the long walk back! Has anyone seen the poor little fella?

WOW! What a weekend! There was so much that I don't know where to start. One thing that I do have to say is that after having the pleasure of meeting a number of guys from the site, every one of them was even more of a pleasure than I could have imagined (and I had high expectations too). Boyd (our favorite jerk), Rick (Onlyone), Marc (Boatguy), as well as Art, Sandy and Louis helped to make the trip that much better. I also had a great time with Louis's crew (being that he was driving a comp jet while he was there) as they were all wonderful people to be around. A big thanks goes to them for all the kindness (Louis please thank them again for us). It was also great getting to talk to Tony, Dave Rankin, Bubbu and Ty Newton, the whole Lavey Navy and northwest crew as well as many others I am sure I forgot. It truly was a wonderful vacation. I hope that our shots (when we get them posted) are nearly as entertaining as the ones that Louis has already posted. Louis you did a great job on the pictures (as usual) and just as good of a job on driving Saturday. I hope everything went well on Sunday. Jerk will have to give us an update on the Sunday events.

What make hull is the SS-31-PS? The pictures are just great. For us back East it's really a treat because most of us have never seen your boats. I see a couple Barron Sprints a Starfire and of course the Biesemeyers. It would also be great if we could get a little sub title telling us who the boats belong to/drive/make. Keep the pictures coming. We have tons of Hydroplanes on this coast but only a handfull of flats

That is the Ron Jones jr (yes the hydro guy) flatbottom. as far as I know there were two made, Al Lapoint has the other one. the 31 boat was crashed badly on Sunday, and was heavley damaged, I am not sure it can be repaired. the owner/driver Jeff Gibson has minor injuries to his legs, but walk away from the crash.

I really had a great time. It was great to meet Paul and Buzzz. I am sorry your guys could not stay for Sunday.
It was nice to see Art abd Sandy again, Art you can come over and "vent" anytime. LOL
Boyd had some oil pressure issues in the last heat on Sunday. but other than that it was a great weekend.

Dang! I was really impressed with that boat in the respect that it was all different than everything out there. (O.K. so some of the bottom was taken off of a Biese, but the fact that they re-designed a whole new boat was impressive). I had the pleasure of checking it out in detail (the crew even offered a tape measure to get any and all info off of it which is never heard of). I would love to see them get that boat (or a new one) up and running as it seemed to be a cool boat. The one unique thing about that boat is that it has a center located capsule and it sits in front of the v-drive unlike all other capsule boats.

They have been working on the boat for a couple of years, it has had some handling issues. I believe the balance was and still is not correct, due to the capsule and v-drive placement the boat traps to much air and get flighty, it runs ok if it's out front, but it's a hand full if it's in the rough water.
Thats what happened Sunday, he was flying the boat and hit a roller going into the south turn, the boat nosed in flipped over.
Most of the deck was destoyed and the deck seem was badly broken. I saw one large crack in the bottom under the capsule, I am sure that there was other damage, I did not see.

Thanks Marc,
There is a K-Boat here on Grand Ialand Gone Fission that was built by Ron Jones. It's also a center capsule boat. It is however an exact Biesemeyer copy. Not sure where the mold came from but I'm sure Ron Jones built it. The 31 boats looks to be a much lower profile hull. Buzzz/Paul. When you measured the boat was the transom the same width as a standard Biesemeyer?

I would bet it came from the Revenge molds that Al Lapoint is suppose to have, I was told he had the molds Kim Gregory owned.
The RJ as it is called you here looks a little wider and is much lower in profile. the nose looks like two hydro sponsons put together, the bottom has 6 shrikes. At one time they were running an outboard rudder. and the cavatation plates are very long.

The boat Tim is referring to was built by Ron Jones jr using the molds that Kim Gregory owned. In order to help the ever struggling K class (find me a flat bottom class that isnt struggling) Kim Gregory allowed his molds to be used to build the boat to replace the boat that the team destroyed In Hampton Va. The new boat is all carbon fibre and had a few innovations in it at the time. I do not think that they were the Revenge molds as the deck doesnt have that rib down the center.

What an event! Hospitality: fantastic and unmatched at any race I have ever attended. Water conditions: not bad for a river but the floating debris caused a few delays. Racing: unbelievable in Nostalgia since I witnessed that first hand. What a thrill to come from behind the Island and score up with 7 other boats about 15 feet between each other! We had never done more than 2 3/4 miles but this was 5 miles of racing (flat out for my boat) under 80. Best of all: the racers and flat fanatics usually found here. I think we all were pleasantly surprised when we all finally met.
The Mink won by the DeCucci jet named Splash with an outboard rudder. Drivers name was Toby ____ I think. Joey was asked to pick out the mink for his wife since he was a big sponsor and builder. That Joey guy is one cool knowledgable person for sure! He even discused and suggested ideas for my hulk.
The Northwest Laveys won 1st and 2nd in Nostalgia with an Oregon Cracker Box third.. However, there were errors made in scoring I think due to the fact this class had never been run in division 10 and things just were not perfected. The awards for Nordlings Lavey Navey couldnt have come at a more critical time after thrashing to put the E66R back after its crash. Their Moral was very high with talk of a fourth boat and grins all around for this new class of FUN racing.
Duff won K class with Hal Jones in Ray Paulis SS501 to his class victory. Pro stock had Mike Darner the winner, 2 liter was Dutch Squires son. Crackers were fun to watch as Steve Shots in P-9 took overall.
I think we did OK for our first time on the big oval and I KNOW I have never had as much fun! But Art will probably dissagree with me once more!!!

Arrived home safe and sound last night. I had a great weekend at Burley. Between Driving the CompJet 402 and Working on it, Taking Photos, Meeting new People and running around helping Mark Moyle with the event, it was a very busy weekend.
I have more pics for all of you and I will get them up later. I just have not had time to down load all of them. Will try to get some up later today.

Tim, we did not use the tape measure, but I can tell you the bottom looks to be the same dimensions. The sides come further out than a Biese so the over all the transom is wider. (Dang, I knew I should have got some pictures).

Brian, I am kicking myself for not having taken more pictures of that boat when I had the chance. (I was feeling a little lazy at the time). I liked some of the things they did with it, but some did not make as much sense, then again, what do I know?

In conclusion to my other comments, thank you so much crew! I am the idiot who let the oil pickup tube crack, spun #4 main bearing in my vintage 1974 LS7. Instead of bearing inspection this Winter I installed stupid energy something panes in wooden frames, idiot!
Hey Art, take note: Root Beer is sweet! Marc & Rick, you did the best with the junk I brought but remember, I didnt go to win, just participate and promote safe, economical racing. In that endeavor, we won! Rick aint no pale face anymore! Next year should see 16 Nostalgia craft, I am one.

In the owners own words at Tastin Racinhttp://i209.photobucket.com/albums/bb16/flatmvn/Burley%206-26-08/DSC_0036-1.jpg: The boat scares him. He is a great helpful guy except when Nostalgia boats are present. It's probably me he dislikes and I'm OK with that since even my wife's dog hates me....Go figure.

I dont have to tell any racers these are cool folks. I think their GrandPa's name is Tom who knew Fred Wickens personally. What a great chat I had with him and Brian pictured on the front of the Cracker drove very well in the Nostalgia class in the 88 Patterson. I feel their Lee Bonner driven woodie K94may be at the next Burley. Just an idiots opinion, what do I know?

named Scott, I think earned the jerks tow money and then some! Some how after brilliant near 80 heats, he was left out of the points battle and I feel should have placed in the top three in addition to the E39 Marlin driven by 'Awesome Davey who beat the Lavey Navey', at least once......
So next year, our own secretary would be nice to tabulate the break outs.
