I was in such a hurry to get an answer to a question I had (and amazed at the speed of the reply) that I completely forgot to introduce myself.

I purchased a 1974 Spectra 24XS from a guy in Florida back in October of 2006. I am the boats 3rd owner. The previous owner told me that the factory 454 was rebuilt and mild performance mods were done a few years ago at Paul Pfaff Engines. The TH-400 trans (not sure of it's condition) and Ace Champion v-drive seem to be in good mechanical condition.

The boat from 20' away looks great... get closer and it's a different story. The previous owner had it "painted" red in homage of his 30+ years as a firefighter. Up close the paint looks terrible in quite a few places. There is excessive cracking, fish scaling, poorly filled holes, a few runs, some bubbles, and I know with a few bucks spent over the winter she can look new again. Like the exterior, the interior looks good from a few feet away. The seat bases need to be rebuilt (rot), the carpet has UV damage, but the vinly is in great shape so for this season it'll have to do. My goal for this summer is to have some fun and get the mechanicals as reliable as possible. We'll see what this winter brings.
