There is a square box that the rudder goes trough finally got all the bolts out tapped it from the bottem with a block moved maybe a 1/4" is this the right way to get it out I am flush with the bottem of the hull now, do I use a brass punch now? Also removed the two prop supports Nicson one had the # 10 Stamped on the side does that mean it is a 10 degree setup? and can the hardware ( prop supports and Fins)be polished up and reused? and what are they made of looks greennish gold. Last question the piece the Prop shaft goes through in the boat looks like aluminum ( Nicson)can it be polished and reused Thanks Rob

Yes, your Nicson (aluminum) prop, "shaft log" can be removed, polished and reinstalled.
The square box the rudder goes through the floor of your boat is called a rudder "stuffing box." I used a bearing seal install tool to drive mine up through the bottom of the hull once it became flush with the bottom of the boat. Since you have the rudder out of the boat, seriously consider having it checked for cracks (x-rayed). Since you state the two prop supports (the one at the back of the boat is called a "strut" and the smaller one located up close to where the shaft enters the boat is called a "whip strut") are "greenish-gold" I would assume they are made of BRONZE. Since they are now off the boat, you can do one of two things. Either re-use these items or replace them with STEEL components. If you are going to re-use them, please have them checked for cracks (particularly the strut). The decision for replacing these items with STEEL components would be based on what kind of boat (hull) you have and what kind of horsepower you are going to be applying to this boat. If you plan on doing 80+ MPH then you might want to seriously consider upgrading the bronze underwater gear for STEEL. The strut angle would be 10 degrees (based on the stamping on the strut).
What approximate year, make and model of boat are we talking about here??
What are your plans for the typical use of this boat?? (ski, lake hot-rod, drag/circle race, etc...)

PE316 Thank You for the info it is a 72 sanger 17' 10" Flat bottem Planning on a 460 Ford Engine probably 500 hp Give or take. The Rudder Appears to be bent and heated and straightened so I think it is junk. So Sounds like I should replace all the underwater stuff to be safe?
Thanks rob

In a "well setup" boat 500hp is pushing the 3 didgit numbers, that means all the "BEST" hardware and a whirlaway!...

You don't need a whip strut but you can leave it there to plug the holes. You need rudder, strut and fins!. Call JJ he'll take care of ya, call Tom for a good prop shaft!. Stuffing box is ok as long as it's not worn out, if you have a cast rudder support you need to make one of those out of 6061!....
