I have a question about painting egine blocks... Is anyone on here a painter or know about paints? I want to paint the engine block the same color as the cap rail on my boat. However, it was painted with House of Kolor two step process paints and I have been told that it's not good to use on the block. The paint code for this is PBC 51 can anyone tell me another brand or type of paint that I could use that will match this paint code?
Thanks,

I have read on another message board. (hot Rods) that using an epoxy primer and then Urethane auto paint is actully better than most spray bomb engine paints.
Keep the clear to as thin as possible because it will keep the heat in.
But these are boats so heat shouldn't be a big deal.

I have painted a few motor and have never had a problem with a base/clear urethane...

That's a cool site, don't want to sound dumb but what does "H.A.M.B." stand for?
BTW, I been using Rustoleum on my blocks forever, cheap and quick even the hot tank has a hard time taking that off!..:D

H.A.M.B. stands for Hokey Ass Message Board... It's pretty hokey itself, but some great info on there for ol' school hot rods.....
I've used VHT paint for years, and still do when not needing B/C system..

We have been using standard multi-stage paints on engines for a while now. We have yet to have any problems with them. Just make sure to prep and prime it well. The engine that went into our little boat is a true candy (don't ask what we were thinking:eek:).

Yea, standard urethanes work fine. The blocks dont get hot enough to hurt it. We bake all the custom bike paint stuff anyway and a block doesnt get any hotter. I have a Harley engine with iron cylinders and aluminum heads that I painted a HOK candy in 1992, and aside from fading a bit from the sun, they still look great. I use rustoleum on the insides, and etch prime the exterior, then standard base ( with harder added) and urethane clear. My paint rep says not to use etch primer cuz it expands at a different rate than the paint,........but he didnt tell me that til I had been using it for 25 years on engines,......so I still do it my way!
