View Full Version : Finally got out

Well we finally got out and tested the new boat. Had a few bugs contend with, but nothing insurmountable. It is a great handling boat and is the capsule ever comfortable to ride in. The vision was alot better than I thought it would be. The last time out I forgot to turn my air bottle back on, think I am going to have to put a note in the cell to turn it on. One thing is for sure, you dont just hop in this boat and go, you need time to get all situated and hooked up. All in all it was a good day of testing. Now we are off to Quebec to go racing this weekend, with any luck lol.

Brian I can't recall if you have raced at Beauharnois before. Be aware that the race course there can be treacherous. It's situated on the St. Lawrence River where there are strong currents . If the wind comes up it can be a lot like the Niagara River.
It's your first race in this boat. If water lays down give er hell. If it comes up rough just bring her home.
Good Luck

Thanks Gordie: At least I am under restriction this weekend, that I why we are going there. I dont want to be under restriction when we go to Valleyfield and meet the legendary Art Anderson, the talented Paul Millar and his wise brother Buzz. Yep I am calling you guys out to come up here, after all its too hot there anyways.

Hey guys: Not much to say about last weekend, we had some of those typical teething problems. Had a peice of rubber from a hose holding the secondary open so motor wouldnt run and then we had a fire on Sunday when we blew a pan gasket and it puked all the oil out on the header. Boat is all good, and other than a few burnt lashes, and eye brows and a red fore head all is good. We are going again this weekend. We will get this sorted out before too long. We corrected a few things that we learned. I have some pics that I will post as soon as I get back on high speed. And you would be amazed at how fast you can get out of a cell when you need to. Aso thanks to the CBF rescue team for being right there to put the fire out.

Brian,
Sorry to hear things didn't go as planned. Looking at the news on the hydroplane quebec web site it sounds like you were not the only ones that had problems. The GP boys sure had no better luck. The results for the other classes were posted but nothing on CanAm. Did you have enough boats to race?

Sorry to hear Brian, but it could have been worse!. Looks like whoever put the braided lines together neglected to check for chunks of rubber, very common thing for a fitting to cut a chunk out when installing!... Why did you blow a pan gasket though??, that's a sign of too much crankcase pressure!..
BTW, boat looks good!...

On Saturday all the classes had there problems. GP 88 broke a rudder bracket, GP 7 lost oil pressure, and Ken's GP 50 had some new boat issues. There were also numerous 5 litre and 2.5's come in on the hook as well. There were only 2 flats there. So we were running for 1/2 points. In reality we both were there just to get our licences for these new boats.

Brian, glad to hear that you and the boat were safe. It sounded like one of those races where no matter what you do you will be fighting an uphill battle. Lets just hope the next times out work the other way for you and you can't do anything wrong.

Holy s*** Brian! Don't mess with fire! Is there a extinguisher system on board? Is there even room for it in the capsule? Its not like the non capsule boats where you can just jump overboard in case of a fire. When your running at this level you need all the precautions available.
Take care,
Gordie

Tony sure got out of his canopy boat in a hurry at Ming this year. I know it is tough though. I couldn't believe how fast he got out of there when the fuel tank split open. Glad you were ok...

Brian what a shame there was only 2 flats that showed up. I guess it's a sign of the times. With the cost of a boat today plus the price just to get to and from the races things may even get worse before it gets better. I see Valleyfield has canceled the K's and 2.5 modified hydros already. Do the Can Am/PS's have enough boats to make the show? I sure hope so. Seeing Hydroplane Quebec is controlling boat racing in Canada and them taking the bull by the horns and re-establishing the GP class making it more of a spec class and owning most of the boats, maybe it would be a good time to introduce a spec flatbottom class. GP's are a great show but cannot stand alone. Got any idea who is running Hydro Quebec??

The Valleyfield Regatta owns most of the gp boats out there. We should have enough there to make the show decent, heaven help us if we dont. Think this is the last chance for Can Am ps in Valleyfield. We have to start showing Valleyfield that we can back up what we say with good solid boat counts and then they may consider being a little more generous.

I know what boat he is supposed to drive in Valleyfield but not sure if it will be ready or not. Has he been out there at all this year.
