What class and how fast Art?

I might start an argument with this but, I have a problem with the speeds the off shore crowd claim for their stuff. The world speed record for prop boats is listed as Miss Budwiser's 220 (I guess they don't count drag boats). Now the Bud boat is a hydro with a mega buck turbine and that record was set in perfect water conditions. Now you take a cat or v bottom boat with 10 times the wetted hull area of the Bud deal, weighs about a million tons, run it in 4 foot swells and tell me the things going 200 mph, I don't think so. To support this I was watching an off shore race and noticed the camera helicopters flying circles around the boats as they filmed different angles. Now most small helicopters with the doors open and cameras hanging out in the wind would be lucky to make 130 mph???

I saw the one run at Fireturd, I don't remember what class he ran but If I remember correctly the speed was some where around 93 to 100 mph the boat was not that fast. It was cool to watch it run though.

Yep, it was cool to watch but that was about it, not impressive at all for speed. I don't remember him running any class, I think he just did exhibition passes????..

There are guys claiming "close to and above 200MPH" on Havasu. I think the "question of ET" is the problem. A 40'/46' Skater with 2400HP takes almost a mile to get near top speeds, and we all expect "an 8 second pass". When you go "7.50 at 149MPH" we all see it and see how quick it happened. When you do a "drive bye" in a (two bedroom condo) 46' boat, at 200MPH it looks "kind of slow". You know, like how a 747 looks when it is taking off, it looks slow. A few years ago, I was doing the maintainence on a DCB with twin Merc 1000's. We went for a ride and the owner "hit it" from (aprox) 40MPH to 135MPH (about 8 or 9 seconds) and he said "how was that?" I said great! But it was no where near as hard as leaving the holding rope and HAMMER DOWN. To me it's like "100MPH in a go-cart, VS 100MPH in a Cadillac", "same speeds, different ride.

The turbine at the irvine regatta goes 92mph. They said they have a governor on it. It could be very possible that they can run close to 200 with out a governor

They told me they had 1200 lbs of torque but only spin a 22 gear. Should be a lot left in that boat.

Loveless went 130 with his...

But I bet there's enough power there to take it way beyond 130!..

At the time he had a borrowed drag car motor and he almost lost the boat towards the end of the kilo. I can't confirm what caused the boat to start to fly away but it sure got everyone's attention especially Danny's. ;)

That's what I'm talkin about, that flame thrower is capable of pushing it way past 130, and in my worthless opinion a Barron is not going to do it, that 130 run kinda told that story!...
