View Full Version : Unofficial V-Drive.com Camera Platform

I am currently finishing the redo on the unofficial v-drive.com on water camera platform for the non event get together in Parker later this year. I think that description keeps even me off the hook. If there is interest I can post pics of the progress.

I realize it is not a V-drive and the only fiberglass on it is the console and the resin that I coated the ply for the deck with so my apologies up front.

Let the flogging begin,

Kurt

My internet was less than dial-up for over a week but now is back upto speed. Sorry for the delay. I know that some of you have not delivered a proper flogging in quite some time. Now you have ammo.

I made new deck molding out of 2" angle and 3" strap steel

http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd67/tonkadriver/Pontoon/P5302756.jpg

The first piece of molding shot and riveted

http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd67/tonkadriver/Pontoon/P5302760.jpg

Sally and Lizard helping put it together. I shot the pieces seperatey and then riveted them together. I used the rivets as a detail line on the molding. Other than my lack of skill with a paint gun the molding turned out pretty nice.

http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd67/tonkadriver/Pontoon/P6022771.jpg

Side panels painted and setup to layout the stripes

http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd67/tonkadriver/Pontoon/pontoon001.jpg

Stripes get done on Thursday and then final assembly on Friday. The corners of the molding will get capped with oak and I am going to replace all Furniture bases with oak veneer plywood that will be coated with resin and shot with clear.

Yep, figured it was a tooner looks great doing a good job, hope this wasn't priority over the Shark though!.... BTW, very cool dog!...

The problem for me with the shark was space and timing. There are lots of things that need to get done before I can devote $20,000 or so to a boat that Sally won't even get in for a ride. In a couple years or so I can look at getting a river toy. The toon is a priority now because we can spend a whole weekend on the water on less than 18 gallons of gas so a fillup will cost about $72 and with the gas prices the way they are a lot of lake will be nice and calm without all those twin engine offshore boats ruining the water and their owners ruining the camping.

it is a 20ft tracker and I have never polished the toons. Does anyone know what kind of acid solution they use at the truckstop polishing outfits?

It would not be impossible for my wife and I to spend a weekend on our 21 ft daycruiser... IF we were dedicated campers!
There is under-deck space to sleep two AND a 460 Ford powering a v-drive.... It doesn't do 75, but so what?

Art, mine is basically an open floor plan with lawn chair room or enough room for a queen size air matress with plenty of room to setup a stove for coffee in the morning. eliminating all that furniture is why it goes 85mph less than 100.

On another note I have noticed something. Before the site crash you were a Super Moderator, now you are only a simple moderator. Did AZDon demote you??????????? LOL

The UV-DRIVE.COMCP is looking good Kurt. Maybe I can donate the 4 cyl comp motor I have to the project. It wouldn't take up much floor space and puts out a little over 500 ponies. I can see that with a Arneson drive hanging out the back.:D:D Make a great cartoon.

Bill, we could set your motor up with a Casale V-drive and a "slipper clutch"! You know, "ease it out, hold on to your drinks, and then "roll it over onto plane"! I'm thinkin' a HOT TUB in the middle, 5HP "Briggs" with the water jacketed muffler for the water heating. The "Briggs' would have a GM alternator driving some golf cart batteries, that powered the I-pod controled sound system. Up front we NEED a blown injected alcohol motor (with zoomies) to power the blender! Video up the first party on the boat, throw it out to Ebay, and get ready to build 20 more! "I love it when a plan comes together!"

Ok Bill,

I am painting the stripes in the morning. So where do I deliver the boat for 500 ponies of fun. Will I still be able to troll for bass?

Seriously, I would think that engine in a small hydro on glass water would kick ass. Maybe a 15 or 16 foot lightweight hull. Have you thought about taking that beauty and building a boat to fit it? You obviously have the talent.

We agree that you go well in a straight line, but lack plate control. Yes you need new cavitation (and underwater) hardware. Don't you remember that day? Art was in the right side seat saying, "do this and do that", in a really nice black boat. "I personally enjoy a beer given to me by a friend, rather than one thrown in my face". I feel there is room for ALL OF US (Art, see my PM) Having worked with and operated a number of teams over the years, I know that ALL CLASSES work very hard to be competitive. "The spectators look at the K's and GN's", while the boaters/racers, look at ALL THE CLASSES! To me there is just as much work involved running a "2.5" hydro as there is in running a "GN" boat, should there be MORE RESPECT FOR ONE?

I can't say I have a newfound respect for the kind of work that people like Billy B and Vale do because I have always been awestruck by that kind of talent. What I have learned from my first paint job is that I have a long way to go to just be able to shoot a simple two tone paint job.
