They always rattle at idle, it's the backlash and it's normal!..

when i had 10% it didnt because i could make no wake with the idle a little higher than it is now...im thinking just going to a lower pitch prop...would that work just as good as changing gears?

NO. "Torque moves the load" The more overdrive in the gearbox, the less torque is realized at the prop. As motor power (torque and HP) goes up prop pitch and gear ratio (overdrive) can go up too. But when you have limited power, you must first get more torque to the prop, like "down shifting" your truck at the base of a hill. If you know what and where your motor makes it's power, you can start with a prop and gear combo that will be very close to what you actually will need. If you don't know your power curve, you will need to test and tune. What do you have?

i have a 327 with 27% gears...:/...because its what my friend had lying around for 100 bucks after i chewed up my other gear box with 10% gears that worked perfect!!!...i dont know why one of the input shafts just came out and caused the gears to go bye bye at about 70mph??..i was just wondering if i would be able to substitute changing the gear ratio with changing the prop pitch...cuz of money issues :/..so if anyone has hall craft gears around 10% for cheap ill take em!!

I have a Menkens v-drive (Hallcraft copy) that has 5 or 9% gears in it if you are interested. (I can't remember what gears it has for certain, it is either 5% or 9%).
