hello everyone great site been working on boats for 25 year and have had many boats including sailboats trawlers ext but just got a 61 howard with a 389 pontiac in it.Had a lot of chevys and fords in the past but first pontiac in a boat after looking at a lot of these boats i had to do a wood deck on it so i used black walnut and curly maple my 2 favorite woods.coming along good just got it in october and hoping to splash it by july.trying to leave it as it was in 61 except for my deck job and boy let me tell you it was a lot of work to do the deck.ive really got a lot of interest around here with it as we dont see them in upstate ny to often.any info on howard boats would be helpful as i know nothing about them its a center deck with a hallibrand 120 10 degree v drive in out with 2 center skegs hardware is all nicson thanks for any info i can get on this boat

Welcome to the board. I've got a `66 Howard. Built by Howard Brown. Started the company in 1959. He later sold the name and business to Gene Willian (not sure of the spelling). Here's a link to the current website but, they don't seem to know much about the originals when I spoke with Gene.

Welcome !!
Your right, there are not very many v-drives in N.Y. or for that matter, on the whole East Coast comparied to out West. What part of N.Y. are you from. I'm on Grand Island (Niagara Falls/Buffalo). I currently have 3 v-drives and have owned at least one from 1966. Tim

Boat races on the Niagara River in North Tonawanda are next weekend. Are you planning on coming to them ? Hopefully I'll make it both days although there are no flats running. You can e-mail me direct if you like. schulte10@verizon.net I live just down stream from the Buffalo Lunch Club where the classic and vintage hydroplane show is every year. Tim

Steve,
I have not given it much thought. Just trying to get things finished around here. Almost done though !!! When are the races? Didn't find a date on the APBA web site. Would like to get to Valleyfield this year but I gave my Conversion van away to a very needy Family and am giving second thoughts to purchasing a motorhome. Not sure if I can find a hotel in Valleyfield this late. Why don't you and Rosie come this way next weekend for the Tonawanda race.
TonkaDriver, Steve, I'm sure is a much better carpenter than I, but I would surely be glad to work as his helper. I work pretty cheap, I don't drink much but I do like to eat and both Steve and Rosie are excellent Cooks !!
Yeah !! I need another boat (although I'll probably buy one) Just can't afford a K-boat I can't race here on the East Coast. Anyway Carol spent all our money on the house !! Speaking of another boat. A relative is coming back this way this summer to pick up a new travel trailer and he is willing to tow something back for me !! Keep an eye out for me guys would like more of a light project boat v-bottom for the river maybe even a jet to build for my Son and his Family down in Virginia. Tim

If you go to vintagehydroplanes.com there are many pictures from the Grand Island events along with several others. The Clayton,NY show is maybe the biggest event of its kind in the country. Tim

Tim... The Algonac races are scheduled for Aug 9th and 10th. We can't leave town for a while as we are in meetings with a company that is interested in some sort of a merger/buyout deal with us, so we are keeping close to home this summer. Don't know how long this will take.
As far as the kitchen remodel goes I did that last year on the cottage but the upstairs and bath still need to be done. Too dad we have no money this year for that stuff.
I guess I will just have to use the boat a little more this year... Oh that is too bad...:D:D You are still welcome to come and stay for the races, just let us know.
