Not trying to be a wise guy here, it is only worth as much as someone is willing to pay, i always try to tell myself can i replace or build what i am looking at for what i paid for it!

It's pretty hard to say what it's worth without looking at it but when I emailed him about it a week or so ago he said $2,800 less mtr and I'd be willing to bet he'll deal from there.....  So what's a mtr worth to you????

well in my opinion an engine with all those goodies on it is gonna cost a hell of a lot more than 2200.00 to put together from scratch, its always gonna be cheaper to buy something complete unless you happen to finda killer deal IMO.

I was asking a question if he happens to have a killer motor already it makes the one in there worth a lot less. Until you pull the motor apart you really don't know what you have no matter what some one tells you. Could be good on the outside junk on the inside.... ARP bolts=good what kind of rods? cast or forged crank?? forged pistons, some better than others ??cam - roller, flat tappet, hyd.??? Is it a real 427 or 396 punched out. All I'm saying is there are a lot of variables unless it's apart and you can check it.IMHO I'd much rather have a hull with no issues.

I dunno I have been searching for a lake hot-rod that's more together than my Hallet...Plus the Hallet is an old circle boat turned ski boat and it's going to be put on the back burner$$$.All the good boats happen to be popping up in the Sacto area......gonna hop on one soon...i just want something Safe, that look's ok and isn't gonna shit out on me in the middle of the lake.

Go take a look at the boat, if it looks good, and is something you think you want , ask him to take it to the water & take you for a ride, you pay the fuel(gas).
If he says no, walk away fast:eek:. If he agrees go for a short ride see how it handles and go from there.
It's a different story when you know the person and you know they have a good boat, otherwise, remember Buyer Beware.:D Like pwderman said, people can tell you anything, but you may be suprised what you end up with when you check it all out.

For comparision, here are a few more "under $5,000" v-drives for sale in So Cal. One of them has some good freeboard and would probably fit you "safe" criteria. Even a $1,000 boat can seem like "such a deal" until a motor, v-drive, or rotten stringer makes itself known. Shopping for an old v-drive is a unique experience and it's easy to get "upside down" in your purchase real quick. So many of us have ended up with two non-runners when we tried to buy a second boat just to "fill-in" for the season. 'Makes one want to finish their own boat or rent an I/O (sorry). You can do a lot of shopping with $5,000 in the old v-drive boat market, shop-hard. No affiliation with these boats...

I agree with everything aquacraft said, I have looked for a v-drive for a long time and there is a bunch of diamonds in the rough out there. I finally found my Jewel and the long look was well worth it, i am very happy with the one i found even though i had to bring it 1/2 way across the United States to get it to its new home.
Good Luck in the search, your new v-drive is out there waiting on you and when you find it you will know it.................
This is a Nice well cared for V-Drive in my area, it would well be worth a call to the guy that owns it...................It just now went on the Market!

Thanks for all the feedback.....I'm going to take my time this time I kinda jumped on the Hallet I bought and boy did I miss a lot of flaws.I wouldn't mind a road trip some where for a good boat :)
Gonna check out some of the boats that you guys posted......I really like the idea of have the seller take a boat ride with me...then you kinda get an idea of what it should do.Thanks for all the knowledge I'm young and dumb but learning very quick.thanks to all "B"

There is a little saying I always tell myself when buying something:
"You don't always get what you pay for, but you ALWAYS pay for what you get" :)
