Ok, Just got shot down by my Farmers insurance agent..... Who insures these boats? Names and numbers would be helpful.
They wont cover it due to the "Exposed engine".
Thanks,
Mark

If it's a drag boat forget it, it's not going to happen. Even if you haul your boat in an enclosed trailer and the contents are insured your boat won't be included. If it's a ski boat I can't answer your question.

Here is a guy that says he can get insurance on just about any boat. I have read some of the threads on PB where he has talked about what he can insure and he might be able to help or atleast steer you in the right direction.

There used to be a company (mabe still is) called K & K insurance out of indiana area. They would insure anything. Any race boat would be covered any time EXCEPT when it is in the water. Meaning stolen, no problem, crashed on trailer, towing, no problem. I have not dealt with them in years Maybe a search.

I sent them an e-mail asking if I could get coverage while towing to and from events/collision. I'll let you know what transpires.

Yeah that was the easy way out, lol. Pop a new one out of the mold and rig it the same and see what he says then, he'll come up with the HP and header deal!. If you had a stock small block in there with logs going thru the transom and quiet, then he would insure it!...

Towing is no problem you're regular car insurance will cover that, it's on the water that's a pisser!..

But do they know "exactly" what you have and how fast it is???..

Not "exactly" We pulled a fast one to get it insured 2 years ago. Long story short, my Dad has had his flat insured for 25 years, with the same campant and agent. Needless to say we have become pretty good friends w/ him and he will try his best to find any loop holes. Bottom line, we were able to underwrite my poat on to my Dad's policy and it was a done deal!!! It wont work for everyone, but it worked for us :D

I knew that,LOL, hope you know you're wasting your money, if something happened you know they will find that out and you'll be SOL, you never lie to the insurance people, that's something you can not get around, trust me been there done that!...

Well we didn't lie! My Dads boat and mine are very similar and 25+ years ago my Dad's was written up the way it really is. He hasn't changed much. Both are 427 BBC's w/ conservative HP lol Its more for the medical bs that mar arise in the event something went wrong. Never had to use it, hopefuly never will :D

You better call your insurance if your depending on that. I have had state farm for about 30 years and they wouldn't insure it while it was being towed. Even if it was in an inclosed trailer they would insure everything but the boat. I know another racer with the same experience.

Well, I've been with Allstate for 35 years and always been covered towing anything on the road, it's on the road shouldn't matter what it is as long as it's legal!..

If you are confident enough that something bad is going to happen.....enough so that you want your invested value covered..... then why should you expect a for-profit business to take that loss for you?
To me, the potential loss of my investment is a good reason to be careful... not an especially good reason to spend too much for insurance.
Liability insurance, on the other hand, is something that I strongly believe in having, but until recently couldn't afford!
When I changed my homeowner's insurance back to GMAC recently, I was given the option of applying the $500,000 of liability coverage to my boat for an additional $35 a year!
I still believe that "space management" is the best insurance against mishaps!

Here in Arkansas we have to have insurance to get a boat registered let alone be legal on the water. State farm ditched me because they said I have a "jet boat" I tried to argue that to be a jet you had to have a jet drive. That made them even madder and then they said "well it looks fast". Now my little boat may be quick but by no means goes as fast as the big offshore guys running twin big blocks and such. I ended up with a company in Virginia called the Markell Insurance Group. Cost me $150 a year for liability. If need be I can get the info if anyone is interested.

If something bad can happen it will happen sooner or later I'd like to be prepared for it. You could use that same rationale for car insurance. Insurance is a risk business for profit or not. I'm willing to pay for the insurance But I don't see why I can't be covered towing something. Whats the difference in insuring a drag boat being towed or a 30 foot cabin cruiser?

Art,
I just got off the phone with Allstate, You might want to discuss this with your agent, I was told that no collision was possible with allstate. For whatever reason it does matter. If you have a accident towing one of your circle boats (accidents happen all the time) you might have a big problem with coverage. That being said I was quoted a price for storage and towing insurance but the minimum premium was a thousand per.

Oh I already have, and I'm covered towing!. I made sure of that when I had the PS52 boat which was not mine and I was towing it to Burley and back with a rental truck, all I did was call them up and give them the info and I was covered, maybe it was because I been with them for so long, I don't know!..
