John Miller has recently finished another restoration. It is gorgeous, take a look at http://www.banderlog.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=5806 It seems unusual to post such a nice V-Drive on a Jet boat site but at least it is in the V-Drive section.

That Boat is not a restoration. It is an all wood flat that John has been building for over a year. He had threads on this site and HB with step by step explanations and pics of the process.
What a work of art. Thanks for the link.

That is certainly a NICE boat but those boats are like long legged blondes, high maintenence! ;)

Very nice... I'll bet the Smithsonian would love to have it.
Does anyone know the weight of those old wood boats? One of my friends had a wood Patterson. Once while skiing together he asked me to help him get his boat unstuck from mud... HOLY COW that thing was heavy. Maybe his was water logged or something.

I cant speak for Mr Miller's woodie but the bare hull of a Glen-l Tornado (18'6" flat), which is all wood with a fiberglass skin, weighs approx 725lbs.

That's heavy, His Patterson had an "egg crate" interior structure of ribs and stringers kinda like the Miller but more of them and more section width. Had to be designed as a circle boat. Don't know anything about Pattersons other then my friends was also a beautiful piece. Maybe someone can provide a little history.

Actually it was at a little lake outside of Lone Pine, CA called Lake Diaz. I've only driven by Elsinore, but raced at Perris not to far away. At the time Perris had a dirt launch ramp, you can imagine what that was like after a few rounds.

Yeah, but that's in it's "original" design from back in the day, you can take a 100lbs off without sacrificing structurability, and that's about right for a 1000hp blown deal!..

Yep, I know that area well. I used to Sky dive there at both Elsinore and Perris for quite a few years. Never boated at Perris but did at Elsinore.

Art, what would you do to remove that weight? Also what does your basic all fiberglass 18 foot flat weigh? Not one made of high tech fabrics but just a basic fiberglass deal. I was under the impression that they were heavier then the tornado. So I'm a little confused:confused: (not the first time:D )

Eliminate the cross deck for one and the plywood on the stringers. Been a long time I'd have to dig out the plans and look at them again to refresh the memory, I had it figured out once and you can take weight out of it!.... Weights can vary, my D'Cucci weighed 450 bare and my Daytona had to weigh 650, back when I raced I knew some ditch pump guys that had 250lb hulls, you were afraid to touch them felt like you poke your finger thru the sides!..
That is a Beautiful Boat...........
