Ok, the local guys have appearantly been smoking something. I have a drag bucket (new) that needs upholstered. Any favorite sources in the midwest? What have you guys been paying lately. The last time I had a seat done (a couple of years ago) it cost 125.00.
These guys say 500 give or take. I will import a mexican, buy a sewing machine, and still be money ahead. LOL
Now, here is where it gets even harder.....I wanted a pair of checkered flags or checkerboard material inset in the back. I cannot find any checkerboard vinyl. Any suggestions? I have been told it is possible to silkscreen vinyl and it will hold up reasonably well.

It sounds like your upholstery guys are lazy.

I'd take a piece of black and a piece of white and inset a damn flag...done. It'd be a little more work, but not $500.00.

My neighbor is an upholsterer...but chairs and couches. I'm trying to get him to do my buckets, but not showing much enthusiasm.

I guess I'll look around some...

Wags,

Sounds like they are trying to get to you. Maybe the correct price for 2 seats in unborn grubber leather. forget the silk screen, it will hold up but you need to have the screen made and then have it inked on.

I would think that any one that does vinyl letters could do youre flag deal most of em have literally thousands of images available and they just size it for you,did you mean wraps for the back of the buckets?grew up around a body shop so i`m kinda biased to paint but what they can do with vinyl nowadays is pretty awesome plus if you get tired of it 6 pack and a heat gun

No, I want a checkered flag stitched into the upholstery. Appearantly there is no material already in a checkerboard pattern (that several big distributors know of anyway).
Let's put 500 in perspective. I had a 1 off custom leather jacket made. It has a checkerboard pattern in the sleeves, my shop logo on the back (very detailed), PE 208 and boat name on the front. I gave an idea of what I wanted, they designed it, I made changes and approvals. Cost me 500.
I will call them and see if they will do the checkerboard pattern if no luck elsewhere. Still not going to do the 500 raping from the local screrw artists.

Wags, are you thinking squares, rectangles or even a diamond type deal could make a big diff in the price?

Well, the checkerboards would need to be squares...maybe 1.5" x 1.5 " ish. (each)
