Okay, this isn't going to be as cool a story as TT's John Force story... but it does involve a mildly successful auto racer (or two!)...
In 1998, my son Nick was the webmaster for our local asphalt racetrack, Havasu Speedway (today known as Havasu95 speedway). Different travelling racing shows would regularly visit our track, such as American race trucks, spec trucks, Legends, Mini-Cup cars, late models, etc.
When the Legends cars visited, the largest part of the group came out of Las Vegas and the stars of that group were a couple of brothers, Kurt and Kyle Busch (Kyle was 13 at the time)
Nick and I were able to meet and talk briefly with Kyle after one of the races and I thought that he seemed to be a nice kid.
ANYWAY....
The guy that ran the raceway at that time told me one time that he believed that those two brothers, especially Kyle, would be major stars in NASCAR within ten years, maybe even within five! to which I replied "No way in Hell, Al, NASCAR IS NEVER GOING TO FIND THESE GUYS BECAUSE THEY AREN'T SOUTHERNERS!!.... Al insisted that his prediction would prove correct and that I should remember where I heard it first!....
Al also used to insist that Nick would be the next Bill Gates.....
