Well it seems as though I have a "Frankenstein" trailer. For starters, there is no provision for the rear seal!!! The spindle is cut straight all the way to a flange. There should be a "step up" before this flange that the seal would ride on but its not there. I talked to a few local guys and the consciences was to have some spacers machined. These would be the same inside diameter as the bearing, (actually a touch tighter to be pressed onto the spindle), and sized to accept the seal. Also cut to the right width to allow the bearing to ride against it and to keep the seal off of the flange. The current setup just crushes the seal to the flange and destroys it. I can keep the bearings full of grease this way but the seals don't keep water out. Pain in my ass   To top it all off, the two axels take different size bearings!

Opinions and options please :D :D

I had the same prob. w/a HADCO trailer that was built for my Sanger, Ur Axels look just like mine, man I hunted all over the place, called Sanger, said they outsourced the trailers to the HADCO. trailer co.< their long gone!:(

but I was able to get the Seal's & Seal Races,< the part U really need, my odd-ball bearing sizes, and SS Buddy bearings from Waymire Distrubtion

Call Skip @ 1-800-434-4828:cool:

If U wanna save some $$$ on the seals/bearings call Kathis Giroux @ Atimus Bearings 1-800-666-6761
she might still have my part# and order sheet< C if they match up 2ur bearing #

tell her Sonny In Live Oak, Fl. refered U, that might jog her memory;)

Hum? does the steal ring press into the hub or ride on the spindle? The step up in diamiter right befor the flange is not there on my spindle, its the same size all the way up to the flange.

I have 2 stops to make tomorrow, The Anchor and a trailer shop in Chatsworth. Hopefully some one will have something on the shelf

Can't go by that spindle diagram it don't make sense to me,lol, The bearing seats up against the seal ring and holds it in place!..

warpt71
05-02-2008, 06:03 AM
Its getting that stainless steal ring to fit that has me concerned. I have new correct seals for my bearings and hubs. The bearings fit the spindle just fine but the seal doesn't make contact w/ the spindle anywhere.

RiverRacer

As I said the bearing holds it in place along with the seal, the kit comes with the necessary seal which is different than the ones you have, it's a total kit just slip it on like the directions say done deal!.

Well.................It looks as though I知 striking out every where   I have been completely un-successful in finding proper seals for my trailer bearings. On top of it all, I don稚 think Ill be going to the River this weekend. A new set of axles is about $600 and I couldn稚 even get them in time if I could afford them. Totally bummed

RiverRacer

Well that sucks, didn't Bearing Buddy have the kits for your spindle size????...

warpt71

Nobody has had anything!!! I have 2 options at this point, have spacers machined that will take up the gap (diameter) between the spindle od and the seal id of get new axles and hubs and be done. If I were to find the same type of seal that is currently on there what would be the odds of finding them again??? Everyone seems to think that they are that obsolete

try Rex Marine? I had to get mine from there, and I live in Australia!!:D

What I have is a Pendleton seal LM-48548 Pat. no 3169809. The seal fits a modern A-5 bearing. This seal seals directly to the baring and the bearing rides on the flange at the end of the spindle. I finally talked to someone that has seen this set up before and they told me good luck!! These are Hadkco axles and they are outa business as well. I知 hell-bent to get to the River this weekend so I put it back together and Ill fix it right when I get back w/ new axles. The seals will hold the grease in but will not keep water out! I知 pretty sure that things will be fine for this weekend. Especially w/ all new grease in all the bearings

Well that's a bummer, but if you have Bearing Buddy's on before you launch pump them with grease to keep the pressure on when it cools down in the water that should keep the water out, may make a mess but WTF at least it'll keep water off the bearings!...

I've seen that done before, some people don't believe that the bearing and the seal holds the sleeve in place!.

Thats the company!!! I really dont care for that set-up and I dont think that their seals would ever be water tight. I would rather have something standard that I can get parts for wherever I may end up, lol, not that Ill be needing to buy parts all the time!!!
