Well, I finally went and got a 10-32 helicoil kit to rethread two holes in my Neovane w/p. These are shallow holes 3/8 or less and I had this cthought occurr to me as I was doing it. I used to work as a tool and die apprentice years ago so I have some experience with drilling and tapping holes. If you look at a tap you will see that there is a certain amount of lead, that lead transfers to shallow threads at the bottom of the hole. Not a real concern when the hole is deep but when in is shallow it is. If you have a need to use one of these kits on a shallow hole you might want to pick up a bottoming tap to use. I know all the guys that do this a lot already know about it but there is a few who don't

The only problem with that is trying to find someone that carries that kind of tap they are odd size, I finally just grind the tip down on one and made my own bottoming tap!..

Thats correct, they would be an odd size. I didn't think of that, much cheaper to grind one down (hard stuff though) than find a maker of odd size taps. :D
