Ok guys, please excuse a poor colonial from here in Aus. I'm going to ask what will no doubt sound like a really silly question and ask someone to explain what the difference is in the boat "classes" you guys quote. For instance... what is a "K" boat as opposed to a "B"boat" etc etc?
I'm probably the only bugger on this forum that doesn't know.... but ya get that..
Cheers
Tony

A "B" boat is a Biesemeyer or a boat from a manufacturer that copied the Biesemeyer. It's not an official term only one that circlejerk came up with out of spite for the boats that consistantly beat him and have dominated flat bottom circle boat racing in the U.S. since 1973. :D
The american powerboat association has many inboard classes and the "K" class one of them. They would be compairable to the unlimited displacement boats down under. We also have the SS class (superstock), PS (prostock), GN (grand National) and P (crackerbox or in the early days Pacific racer). People refer to boats built for the K class as K boats.

Hi Tony. The closest boats we have here to a K boat are the BAD boats Blown Alcohol Displacement, such as 'Liberty', 'Fury' & 'She's The Culprit' to name a few. These boat run similar engine combinations to the K boats although K boats are flatbottoms and often drive off the snout, whereas our BAD boats tend to drive off the flywheel end. There have been several boats over the years that would probably fit into the K boat class. 'Chevy', 'Holley', 'Wild Horses' & 'L A Dart' spring to mind. These were flatties but found it a hard racing on courses that have single bouy turns. But I love them & bought an 18' LP RaysonCraft to restore. There is just something about a blown & injected flatty. Hope this has helped.

Thanks V-drive, Rayson, Poncho
That clears it up:D
I had wondered why we didnt race too many flats down here Rayson, the single buoy turn thing makes sense.

On a larger course or with a boat with V you can get away with driving off the flywheel, but on a single pin turn with a flat you have to drive off the front for the prop torque to the left so you can bring the tail around, if the courses were clockwise everyone would be driving off the back!..
BTW, that LP is a cool boat!..
