View Full Version : Looking for Cav plate parts

I am looking for three or four of these parts for my boat, I think they are made by Hall-Craft. I need the piece that goes over the 3/4" hex jack shaft and connects to the top of the turnbuckle.
My plan is to add a plate at the top of the tunnell to help with rudder cavitation and to knock down some of the spray that comes out the back.
Kids say the spray hurts @50mph, go figure.

I have a complete set up like that, came out of a flat bottom. I would sell it, but would sell it complete minus turnbuckles. pm me and we can talk.

That is Hallcraft, if you don't come to a deal with Brian let me know I may be able to help!...

OK, I could use some help also...

The Lebel I have had 7" to 7 1/2" turnbuckles...about 1/2 missing all chromed/rusty with brass body. 1/4" diameter 5/16" holes

Here's the problem...everyone sell "jaw ended" turnbuckles where the pin/clips capture either side of the two turn buckle jaws...mine has a single rod end and is captured on either side but the control arms.

I've already opened up the down plate mounts to 3/8" inside diameter assuming I'd put 7/16" turnbuckles in...until I figured one end was wrong.

Any rod end/jaw end turnbuckles around? especially a bit bigger than 1/4 or 5/16"?

Hmmm, sounds like real old low performance stuff??? got any pics??, might think of converting may be worth it in the long run!..

I'm on the back of my budget right now...to do it "right" through Rex is $800...

The little plates the turnbuckle bolts to on the down plate have already been opened up to 3/8". The control shaft is 3/4" SS. The lever arms are heavy aluminum...but two ears and the rod eye goes between them. I can cut them a hair wider if needed.

I don't think I need the full race 1/2 turnbuckles, but sure don't want 5 of 8 crappy 1/4 ones either:D The 7/16 seemed doable.

I think I can use a SS barrel style turnbuckle from a sailboat and change out one side for a rod end. But cheaper is better.

are you wanting the same stock setup that came on my lebel? cause if you are gonna do something different i want to see it.

Yours looks like a standard set-up, pins from the control shaft, turnbuckles, downplate.

The pins in your control shaft go all the way through...mine don't (but I have a drill:D) What are the eccentrics on mine only goes 1/2 through, but the aluminum wraps around the shaft. Yours stick out.

My father in laws boat looks just like your set-up

I may just make something and put a rod end in it. No real reason to even make it a turnbuckle...slip out the link, adjust, put it back.

In a way turnbuckles don't make sense, they're for tightening...we use them to push.

Turnbuckles are a way to tighten cables etc...

We use them to push the plate down...very few of us need an up pedal.

Ours are mostly either under slight compression or more compression. The turnbuckle is really meant to apply the tension in a contraction.

They work, just something else that was adapted from it's original use.

What's an up pedal got to do with turnbuckles, LOL, turnbuckles are necessary to adjust the plates, other wise nobody would spend the money for them, and you would not see them on any boats!.:D

I understand. Just pointing out that we aren't using them as they were designed.

Just wondering, and it may make no sense whatsoever. But has anyone looked at the splitter on the COT in NASCAR. Rod ends, just thinking if this may be cheaper or better, and for those of us that can machine all you would need is a left and right handed taps. Just thinking. And tell me something else when did Richard Petty win the NEXTEL SPRINT CHAMPOINSHIP. I could have sworn he has only one 7 Winston Cups, but never the elusive and commercialized SPRINT CUP. There I am done ranting. But what about the idea for cave plate hardware??

Well, I don't think those rod ends are stainless so they would rust, plus those gotta cost a fortune, and picture how ugly it would look!. If it was the way to go it would have been done 30 years ago!..:D
