How many of you guy's replace your impellor every year or do you? If you don't replace it every year what do you do to preserve it?

Well, I've never used a Magnaflow but I still have my Neovane from my first boat and only went through 2 impellers. Over the winter I'd pop the cover so the vanes could relax, the rest of the time I'd just put a litle Marvel or WD(bulk form)to avoid dry starts, quick heat will tear up the impeller!.. With the Magnaflow you'd have to take it out of the housing!..

After replacing the Lavey-Craft's Neo-Vane impeller for the unpteenth time [only 1/2 of last summer running on it] I thought I would check the Glenwood impellers. Howard: showed some minor vane splitting on 1 or 2 vanes, not bad after 25+ years. Hondo: no splitting or signs of distress after 15+ years. They are great pumps but I can't justify the cost or the extra water flow for the Lavey with its near stock FE 390.

Bob, why were you going thru impellers on the Neovane?? I still have my Neovane from my first boat from the 70's and only put two impellers in, it was used up until 3 years ago when I put the injectors on, went to a RiverRat pump to stack the injector pump!..

The trick to making a Neovane impellor last is to remove the cover when it is sitting in the garage. Before going to the lake spray a little WD40 or Vasoline on the cover and reinstall. An impellor usually last me 5 years or there abouts and in most cases when it breaks or is damaged it is because I screwed up like running it dry or having 1 or 5 to many beers and forgetting to take the cover off before throwing the cover on. Don't worry, I have a wife to drive my HAPPY ass home from the lake.

One thing I learned a long time ago was to use WD in bulk, the propellant in the aerosol can will deteriate the rubber, Marvel works really good too!..

Welllll Art....its like this...I'm lazy:o or I forget to remove the cover. Guess I got spoiled with the Glenwoods. It has a new impeller now and it feels softer than the old ones. Maybe made out of a different material. Kinda feels like a silicone rubber. At $32.00 a copy I suppose I should pull the cover when its not in use.

Yeah I know what you mean been there done that,lol.. Even with a different material I don't think it's good for the impeller blades to be folded over for a long period of time, fatigue sets in after a while!..
