Now since I am doing the Casale 3 dog and propshaft conversion on my v-drive it requires me to have a "Locking Handle". I'm posting this picture of the current handle style in my boat now to see if any engineering minds have any ideas on how I can keep this handle and make it locking. Currently when it's down it is in Gear and up is out however there is no locking mechanism.

The v-drive is normally under the bench seats so I need to have this type of extension and I would like to try and keep this handle if possible.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

why can't you make a simple arm that swings over the top of the lever to keep it from bouncing up and becoming disengauged? You could go all out with it if you wanted and put a spring on top and a detent on the mount to positively lock the lock bar in position. Basicly get some stainless angle, cut down to make a backing plate behind your current handle. Cut the top so it clears the current lever's path of travel. Cut a flat piece of the same Stainless and put a small cut (making a notch) near the piviot then bend the notch down to make a detent. Drill the pivot hole. Bolt up from the angle, put nylon washers under the tab, then the tab, stainless washer, spring then stainless washer and self locking nut. Mark where the notch lines up when in the locked and unlocked position, dimple the top plate of the angle and you are done. Unless you want to polish it all.

On second look you could simply drill a hole in the handle and make a spring loaded detent that would lock the handle in place. Just have to be sure the spring pushes the pin into the detent or hole you make for it to lock into on the back plate.

If you don't have a whirlaway you don't need a locking handle, the detent ball will keep it in gear, the tension is adjustable!.

Sorry RR, I thought I mentioned that in my post. I am now safe with the whrilaway, so I have to do the locking handle.

I assume the lever beside the stringer behind the throttle peddle is your in and out lever and linkage.

How much room do you have between your seat and the V-Drive. If you have room just put one on the side of the shift housing that is designed for it. Here is a pic of what it looks like. If it will fit you can eliminate all the linkage and stuff that is taking up space.

Not sure what the current price is on one but it makes a clean setup.

Well, that was my first thought too, but looking at the seat brackets looks like he may have a full seating arrangement and the v-drive is probably buried??, still would be easy to make a similar deal and mount it on the stringer though!..

I still have the org. in & out handle from my Sanger that had a 4 seat set-up.
It mounts to the floor on the inside of the stringer, it's for a Whirl-A-Way.
it has a splined brkt. that mounts to the shifter fork vs. the locking handle U C in these pics, connected to a threaded rod an clevis close to the floor, then to the forward shifter handle, give me ur Email, I'll send U a pic and U decide, U pay shipping U can have it:cool:

Yep, you got it... the seats cover the v-drive. I think I'm just going to have to give up the original handle and just put a locking handle like everyone else has. Oh well, I was trying to keep the craftmanship originality...

I sure wish my v-drive case looked as good as yours.
