HELP...

I need to replace a couple of cooling fittings and and can't find what I need.

I'm looking for brass 45 degree 5/8" hose x 3/8" NPT. SS will be ok $$$ if I can't find the brass.

I know they were made, cause there were a couple in my manifolds, but I can't find them anywhere to purchase.

Do any of you guys know of a source???

Thanks, Keith

Try your local auto parts store. Not necessarily the corporate ones, but a privately owned store with real counter people. Look in their fitting catalog and ask them to order the fittings you need. Pre pay, no sweat. They'll call you when your stuff comes in........Some of those odd heater hose fittings were factory stuff because of interference with accessories. I imagine a good hardware store could do the same thing IF they have actual catalogs instead of computers only. .............MP

The sizes you ask about are automotive heater hose fittings.
They are available in 3/8 and 1/2 inch pipe thread and 3/8
hose on the other end. This is standard size for most water cooled
exhaust headers (logs) I buy them chrome plated at Summit Racing
here in Ohio. It's really a big boys toy store. Check out Summitracing.com.
I need to pick up a couple of 90 degree this week.

He is looking for 5/8ths, and since there are no 3/8ths heater hoses, your "3/8ths hose" must have been a typo.....MP

Thanks for your help guys, I had already tried all of the local auto parts shops and chains, also none of those contacts you recommended had the 45 degree 5/8" hose x 3/8" NPT I was looking for.
I did a google search and did find a plumbing supply house in Kansas that stocked them and they were relatively cheap. I should have them Friday. I'm at a point on my Stevens project to get all the plumbing done...there's light at the end of that tunnel and I'm just praying it's not a train!!
Thanks again for the help.

My hardware store usually has everything I need and that was the first place I checked, but these 45 degree with the size combo seem to be an oddball by todays standards. I did find the place on-line so I should have them by Friday, so I'm all set to keep rolling this weekend.
I can't believe how difficult they were to find considering they should be a standard...if you want to run rubber hose, that is!;)

HAHAHA...you've gotta love that ugly brass stuff!!

Anyone can run that overpriced bling they call anodized aluminum, but I'm comfortable enough with my boat to run the ugly brass stuff! haha:D

PS: They'll get chromed for next year if I don't find them chomed in the meantime.

I am in the process of changing my cooling stuff to brass and rubber from the AN. I got tired of the AN fittings going bad. Corrosion, leaks.

You said you're changing your "cooling stuff to brass and rubber", but didn't you mean your changing to the cool stuff, which is brass and rubber?? hahah:D

Here's a link to the place I bought the brass fittings I couldn't find any where else: http://midamerica.thomasnet.com/category/fittings-section-f-garden-hose-fittings-hose-barbs?

They had every thing in stock and the price was right and good to deal with!

Good luck with your project.

Ace Hardware was right. They had an isle dedicated to it. Brass, copper, good ugly stuff.

My boat is all AN and braided hose. Been taken apart more times than I can remember and never had a problem. It cost alot up front to do it this was but have not had to replace a hose in years. Even my fitting still look decent as I use my AN wrenches on them so as not to scratch them too much.

hahaha...

I would run AN and braided hose because they do look good and last forever, but they wouldn't fit the look I'm going after with the rebuild on my boat.

...but that was a good one, do you have any 45's you can spare???? :D

Lake Berryessa might of been the culprit for it. I left the boat in the water down there for a few weeks last year. Result was pitting on my cav plate. Probably that was what ate my AN fittings as well. Whatever it is, I wont leave my boat in the water longer than two days now. I know about airplanes using AN style. I worked on air frames for a few years.

You don't need the braided line, you can use push-lok and have a combination of the AN and old school look, and without the high cost!.. I know what you're doing, I have 45's depending on the size you need, not hot water heater fittings though!..:D:D

Art, the rest of my really, really nice looking brass fittings came in today, but for future reference can you show me what you have that you were talking about? Do they come in chrome or stainless?

LeadSled,

Russell makes a line of hose and hose end fittings called "Twist-Lok"

"AN" actually stands for "Army-Navy". These were the standardized fittings developed to be used by both services aircraft in WWII.

My buddies wood deck 20' Howard Marathon (twin turbo, intercooled, Medium-Riser) is plumbed with all brass and Aeroquip "Push-Lok" hose and fittings. It looks great. Real clean looking. Has a "period correct" look to it. I like it. Don't get those little wires poking you in the finger either.
