I have two stripped machine bolt holes in my Neovane water pump. Do I have to remove it from the engine and drill them for coils with a drill press or can I do it while it is installed if I am careful?????????

I do it all the time on fishing boats with the part in place no biggie, good sharp drill bit and low speed with patience

I was just thinking about this i`m assuming the holes are in the main body on my pump some are exposed at the back and some arent is it possible to get a small machine nut on the back theres not alot of torque needed just a thought

Nope, these are all blind holes.

ok fine still no big deal, biggest concern would be depth stick a drill bit in there for a measurement and wrap the bit youre using at that depth with electrcal tape so you know when to stop once you drill and install the coil make sure you use never seize on the screws biggest problem with helicoils is down the road when you take things apart and the screw wants to hang on to the coil and use nothing but stainless steel screws period

Cool, these puppies arent very deep. I will see if I can't scare up a bottoming bit and tap. :D

It's a 10-32 and it's less than 1/2in. deep.

yea the helicoil will come with the correct tap unless you buy refills only

you got any friends around that fix cars or a machine shop kinda sucks to buy stuff that most likely get used once

If one is bad there may be a few more that are getting tired since they all have the same wear, would be a good time to check them all and replace them now instead of waiting for another one to strip out!..

I thought of that already Art and have sorta tested them. I'd like to get a helicoil kit so I don't have to be searching around when I need one of those darn things.
