Depends on the enforcement of the place you go to.

They're still being somewhat cool on the strip as long as you're not running zoomies past the houses at 6:30 am.

Muffler inserts, they kill HP and screw up the tune.
I've of people pulled over with the inserts, tested still too loud but let off because of the effort. Maybe get inserts if you're getting hassled where you boat, "relieve" the hell out of them and hope for mercy.:D

Hey GR8WHITE,
Great looking Lebel, thanks for posting your pictures. Regarding noise; I noticed you live in So Cal; me too. I and others have had no trouble running down the middle of Lake Elsinore in the "Unlimited High Speed" zone on weekdays. The High Speed zone is closed during most summer weekends and all holidays. Seaport Launch is pretty low-key and is at the North East end of the lake. If you launch there and are easy with the gas you should be able to get out to the middle of the lake and go with no problems. 70 MPH runs down the "No Wake" buoys in front of the campground will get you noticed like anywhere else. Thanks also for your help on the boat covers; I think I found a cover that I will update everyone on at the end of the month.

Haven't been there in a long time but unless things have changed, the water is green!..:D But it is a cool place, just make sure you have mufflers!..

Don't matter as long as it's an operative muffling device!..

Best of luck. I have been messin with pipes this past year. Logs with water (I know not a muffling device) mellow noise, but not the best exhaust flow. Then I tried the black shorties dry ,great noise loud as hell. Perfect. Put POS super-traps on them (too restrictive). Now I am running another set of pipes dry with resonator tips welded on with the same OD (4.50") as the collectors, ID is 1 inch smaller in the tips. Works great through the RPMs. Probably still wont pass on the Calif noise requirements though.

Just tell the cops it was the original equipment...lol.I told the cops once that my 180's were a "self muffling design". They bought it 'cause they'd never seen anything like them before! :D

I've done that stuff before and got away it, lol, what amazes me is the fact that they put these cops out there to enforce a law but they don't have a clue, you would think that they would educate them a bit!..

well i will just hope the baffles and water will make them happy enough, at least im trying to keep it quiet.;) as long as they just dont hear me railing down the lake, then hopefully they will leave me alone.

They can only test at idle not out on the lake, if you are loud and they here you they will want to see your mufflers and test you at idle!..

:D My step brother had a '69 camoro he used to ricky race everywhere and went through the bias ply tires (because they drifted better and were cheap) every 10,000 miles. He got pulled over by a young cop for his tail light and a failure to stop.
The cop walks around the car and sees that the tires are bald and is gonna get him for them too. My step brother convinced him that they were street slicks...with fibers from the belt hanging out. He told the cop he paid extra for them.

how many db's are allowed?
RiverRacer

The level depends on year of engine manufacture. Before Jan 1, 1993 - 90dba. On or after Jan 1, 1993 - 88 dba

Back in the seventies in Nor Cal they started out trying to get us to about 86 Db's then down to 84... Now that really sucked.... Don't know what it is at now..

I never heard anything about that here. "Nor Cal" did you say. Sure wasnt Clear Lake in the seventies. Get away with almost anything here in the seventies. Only thing they look for on this lake on present day is rowdy drinkers, unsafe. There used to be some @sshole boat cops here, retired now.

Yeah we boated at Clear Lake a lot in the 70's. The Sheriff only wanted mufflers of I carried them in my truck just in case they were at the launch ramp:D They were worse in the delta. We had a Sheriff that would hang around the ramp at Hogback quite a lot. Had to put them in while he was there and take them out at the beach...

so just try and crank down the idle huh, min is set a little high right now but im sure there is such thing as too low :D

Pull the timing back a bit too that helps!. I would get it checked before I went out to make sure it passes, then put it back on the tune up that way they already have a reading. If you just go out there and they hear you and bring you in, you won't have a chance to re tune for the test!..:D

I find an 800 to 2000 rpm lopeing idle to be the best.:D

Water is not as green... They have installed what they call Aerators...:)
My place is up the hill from water's edge... Love the sound of a BBC with blower on the water... Just kinda makes ya want to stop what your doing and take a look at who is running... There is lately a lot of contraversie I hear regarding the sound levels for the lake... I say, "leave it alone"... They were there first..!
Kinda like folks that build their homes close to an existing airport... then complain to the city about the noise... then the city restricts the airport use to the point of no use...
Would hate to see that happen here...: )
A lot of locals refer to itas, "the voice of the lake"... I agree.
Though, have to say.. I too am now one of the proud owners of such fun....
A BBC.... Blown... ( with Bassetts & the baffles ) Still quite loud... :)
SeaPort Launch....Hmmm.
Will be launching both our boats this coming weekend...
Her's... A 1970 Highboy, 22ft IO... And mine... 1970 Auquacraft
Can't wait...

They ain't never gonna change the noise laws, it's been that way since the I went there in the 70's, I remember pulling in to the park and the first thing they would do is walk back and look at the headers, and if you didn't have any mufflers in there you didn't get a sticker to launch, and there were hardly anybody around then!...
