hey guys i am from so cal i live in lancaster and work in valencia near magic mountain. what lakes do most of you so cal guys go to? first off my name is justin and im 28 years old. i grew up on boats and my favorite little mud puddle is buena vista in bakersfield, castaic kinda sucks and pyramid is ok but i do like to go to the river as much as possible. my parents have a 24 ft deck boat and i use that whenever i want but i had to have a flatty and my dad wanted me to get one before i did, i think he just wants to drive a boat like that again. but whenever you guys go to the river let me know cause my parents live in between laughlin and needles, i will probably be up there may 22-26 and take my boat out before it gets to choppy and for the weekend take the deckboat out.:D

Hey guys,
I have lived in the beautiful SFV all my life!!! I have been to the local lakes and personaly I will save my money and drag my ass out to the river befor I go to the lakes. We have done early morning ski runs at Lake Mistaic, I mean Castaic. Lake Piru really isn't that bad for a test and tune. I realy dont like getting hasseled or causing problems so I try to steer clear of the local stuff

The mussel issue is closing most local water down to outside boats. Even the bass fishermen are excluded, for now.........I'm getting out, headed for the river to find a toyshop and a cardboard box, (with A/C of course) to sleep in...........Sometime this summer...........And it looks like a lot of travel time with the 89..........Ray

yes we used to know diane, i dont think any of the old rangers are there any more, nothing but a bunch of new pricks that walk around at 10:01pm that shine their flashlight in your eyes and tell you to be quiet or they will arrest you. i know brian is still there in the little snack shop, my dad and his friend keith helped build that enclosed building where the snack shop is. my dad used to race the rangers in the old flatbottom on the back side of the lake and the rangers would be in their cars on the back road, until the driveshaft broke with no driveshaft loop and it went through the bottom of the hull and my dad did some ejected cartwheels at 85 mph ha ha! the good old days and they arent even that old cause im only 28.

Good Topic, finding good water in California for skiing and especially fast v-drives is almost impossible.
Any of you ever been to the Kings River by Kingsburg? Royal Oak Park east of 99 used to be a special place for v-drives. Saturday evening was drag race time, mill around the island and pair up with someone and race toward the bridge over 99. I got started in "official" racing because I had built my ski flat to the point where it was useless for skiing. Unfortunately Royal Oak is now a time share and between the 5 MPH zones and water Sheriffs row boats are the ideal ride there now.

Lets not forget to mention Irvine Lake. Dave N., (he is a PB forum member) puts on a hellofa event about twice a year. It is well worth the 10 bucks to see a bunch of terrific boats and meet the people behind them ........Everyone is welcome, although the water is limited to 50 or 75 boats depending on lake level. Boats, bikes, custom and hotrod cars/trucks.......And did I mention the people.....Another note, Dave has been known to allow hotboat testing, call him......He will fix you up if the lake schedule, (fishing) allows the time.......It would be a great place to meet up with the So Cal group, put faces to screen names etc etc.......And share a few cold beverages......Then plan some river trips with our rivertoy boats...........This June there will be a timed K boat challenge, and maybe a GN race against the clock as well..........Also, So Cal guys, Parker is just across the river, come on out for a circle race, it's FREE.........And a good time is usually had by all................Ray.....PS89..............

Never been to any South Cal waterways, just Nor Cal. Lake Shasta, Lake Pillsbury and Lake Mendocino once in a while. And Clear Lake since it is in my backyard. Only takes less than 5 minutes to drop the boat in from my carport to the lake.

my buddies dad is trying to get me to go out to lake san antonio, he says there is alot of nostalgic boats up there. but its about a 180 mile drive for me and his dad lives by me and drives up there for the day. or i could drive 60 more miles in the to my dads house by the river. decisions, decisions.

I got a noise ticket at Shasta back in the 80s......Mendocino was more forgiving back then, and Clear lake was anything but clear when I was there. A lot of floating stuff........If you run Clear lake a lot, you must know the Allertons...Most of our "home" lakes are getting overgrown with anti noise new comers, like the river is. The noise was there first, they knew it when they bought/rented on the water. Kinda like buying a house under an airport glide path and then complaining about the planes.........MP
PS: Loud boats save lives!!!

Another great waterway that got regulated into the mud....Years ago it was wide open, no hassles, now, like everywhere else, the regulations have put a real dampner on any open headered, fast boats. There are good stories about the rangers looking the other way, but a lot more about $500 noise tickets....MP

Allerton hmm I might. I do know many with v-drives around here. Some of them have a lot of history of the good ole days on Clear Lake. When boats used to come from all over to participate in the great marathon races of the 60s 70s 80s. Flatbottom Freddie Mcfarlan. Roy P of the budweiser. John Freighttrain Peters. John Sofilos. Lou Brummett of Mandella boats. Rudy Ramos. Vic Edelbrock. Mickey Thompson. Just to name a few that did the marathon here. Howard Arneson comes up this way every summer to run his turbine boat. I heard that thing does 186mph. Just to hear it is amazing as it rips by with a rooster shooting hundreds of feet behind it. I bugged him years ago for a ride, never got to. Clear Lake does have Algae. Great lake in the spring. Early fall is another story. I get away with so much on this lake as far as noise, but then again I respect what I was told by the patrol boats (stay away from the populated parts of the shoreline if i am going to nail the throttle). With a hundred miles of shoreline there is many places to choose for fun. Just dont go boating after 2:30pm in a flat bottom, starts to get rough with that afternoon wind on the main body of the lake.

Well, by now I'm sure Diane is retired she has to be an old broad by now, LOL.. She was the Gestapo back in the late 70's and 80's, but if you played her game and didn't do stupid shit, she was cool as can be!.. But yeah, seems like that place was always a rookie training place and all the newbies would be on an ego trip!.LOL, just had to know how to deal with them!...:D

Hey Everyone.... I just came across this thread, great idea for the So. Cal. Group! I live in Costa Mesa, grew up just going to the river. We never really went to any of the lakes except for the races. At the river we usually stayed at Riverland (Mostly), Echo Lodge in the late 80's my parents friends had the last 3 mobile homes in the back row at the very end. Spent most of our summers either place. My boat had been sitting for about 10 yrs and in the interim water had gotten on the deck and sat there and ruing the original mahogany. So over the past 2yrs I have been re-doing the boat. I'm trying to get it done by late May so I can get it to the river and make sure everythings running right before the summer.

I think Louis is planning on the 15-21 or something like that. That sounds like when we might try and make it. We like the idea of being there in the middle of the week.
But for now we will see some of you this weekend in Parker.

Choose wisely as we are going to follow what ever your suggestion is. We will try to roll in the fifteenth and roll out the twenty first. I have church on the Sundays so we will have be there between them. I am sure we can get into some trouble during the week. If all goes well we will have moms tug boat there to tow the little boat back after we run out of gas.:D
